Wifi in parks

Hi all!

I am planning on bringing my iPod touch with me to the parks and have downloaded some very useful applications includng maps, restaurant menus and location of hidden Mickeys, however, I was wondering if there is wifi in the parks so I can get updated information from the internet.

Also, does anyone know a way to see real-time wait times online?

Thanks!

There are no unencrypted WiFi sources available in WDW except if you're lucky and get on the outside edge of an off-site router... I've never hit one. Download WiFinder or a similar app that'll search for any hotspots available.

For sure i'll post if we find one! The DH is all into the Disney apps - we downloaded the dining one - cool that it shows the menus and prices and DDP. :slurp::slurp::slurp: And of course we downloaded the maps - that says to click to show us where in the World we are. But with out wifi, how can it show us where we are???? :lookaroun

I'm not sure how the geolocation works on a Touch. It may use WiFi you can't connect to though... I'm just not sure whether it needs to connect to get the geo data onto the Touch.

The App is designed for both iPod Touch and iPhone... iPhone has GPS.

I believe that feature only works with iPhone.

Correct, that feature only works with the iphone gps. I have all the parks on mine and the apps are wonderful!
:sohappy:

I've had them for a while now... but haven't been in the parks yet. Looking forward to it. August is coming! :D

As far as access to wait times, wasn't that supposed to be covered by the new Verizon phone info system? By the way, what ever happened to the info being available on Verizon? I haven't heard any news about that lately.

Disney has NO free wifi in any parks or at any resort. Why give it to you free when they can charge you for it? :animwink:

The geo locator only works with the iphone. It works in the parks for me because I am connected (hopefully - if all the stars align...) to the 3G AT&T network.

With an iPhone 3G the GPS is built in, it should work whether you're connected to AT&T or not.

If you sat on the bench inside the Power and Light shop right at the exit of Space Mountain, there used to be what appeared to be an open, generic "linksys" network. My Touch would show that I was connected to it. But...it never let me actually get online. It didn't actually give me a real dhcp. Of course, even that is moot at the moment since Space Mountain and the gift shop are closed at the moment. It was just highly annoying to be so close but no cigar.

None at all. You will see many encrypted setups but they are for the vendors around the park for credit cards.
I am sure cast members have access to certain things too.
Just no service for guests.

Sorry. I thought 3G was provided by AT&T :lookaroun Obviously, I need to find out more about how my phone works!

I do have a question though...... what are the chances that WDW will offer wifi on a "payment" basis throughout the park/ resorts? I know you can pay $10 a day at the resorts to be connected in your room. But while I think that is a waste of money, I might pay $10 to be connected anywhere on Disney property for a day? Sort of the "airport" pay for wifi type thing?

3G is the network provided by AT&T. GPS is a technology built into the iPhone 3G version. :D

I'd pay for WiFi throughout WDW. I don't know that it'll be offered any time soon though.

I guess I kind of assumed if your phone was capable of accessing the internet you would be able to access it on your phone even in the parks is that not true?

I have a blackberry would it not access the internet in the parks? Do they have something to block your acess?

Thanks for any advice.:)

If you have a data plan your phone can access the internet. The iPod Touch does not have a phone, it can only access the internet by WiFi.

I have an iPhone, but data charges while I'm in your country are way to expensive so I would only use WiFi.
