Why was Mr. Toad's Wild Ride removed from MK? Any reason other then creating Pooh?

Anyone know the real reason they removed this seemingly pretty popular attraction? Was it just to make room for Pooh Bear? Was the attraction not bringing in people any longer?

Thanks

Can you tell me the year it closed? I have been going each year since 2006 before that it was 2001 and I think it was still open

It all depends on who you ask but low guest numbers and the fact that the average person could not tell you who Mr Toad is if you put a gun to their head seem to be the most logical reasons.

Sadly you're right on the second part - too many people have missed out on a piece of classic literature. I honestly can't tell you if I've seen the Disney version, but I've definitely watched at least two other versions of Wind in the Willows and read the book. All very enjoyable.

Thanks

Pretty sure it was back in 1997/1998 or so it closed. I know Pooh was in place during our visit in 2000, but can't recall on our 1997 visit.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
It's definitely one of those "absence makes the heart grow fonder" deals. It had a few good fans when it was open, but when it closed those few good fans became a bandwagon full of strong fans.

Take it for truth or not but I was just told recently during a WDW visit 5/27/10 while attending "Lunch With An Imagineer" event - when this exact question was brought up by another attendee - that Disney is not into turning the parks into museum’s. The que line had been very low or at times empty at Mr. Toad’s in the MK. So the space was "re-purposed" for the Pooh attraction. Of course he also cited that once this info got out to the public that park gate protesters formed as well as other groups as they all tried to start a petition to stop the removal of the ride. It didn't sway the decision one way or another and the attraction was closed. Jokingly he also said, if so many people found it a worthy cause – that is to save it - where were they and why weren't they in the que lines? ;)

Again this is what we were told, our group of 8, when he was asked nearly point blank. He also said that it still exists in DL for the nostalgic folk. I can't confirm or not since I've never been.

BTW, this was a nice tour/lunch of sorts at the Brown Derby at DHS. Very much worth the fee. My wife got it for me for our anniversary - it was a surprise and I very much enjoyed it. Our Imagineer was very nice and personable and enjoyed it as well from what he told us.

Personally, I never rode it and don't miss it...

I used to love Mr Toad's Wild Ride, but I can also see how a generation gap can kill a ride. My daughter would not have liked Mr. Toad compared to Pooh. Pooh is a more lovable friendly character than Mr. Toad was. Pooh is a lot more marketable as well.

I remember being on the ride when I was very little and loving it! I thought that last part was a little bit scary when they were dressed up in jail but it was definitely one of my favorite rides. I had no idea it was Wind in the Willows until a few years later when I got the book from a scholastic paper from school. I loved the book but sadly this ride was gone by the time I got back to Disney. I would have loved to experienced the ride after having read the book.

I rode Mr. Toad at MK during the last Christmas season it was opened- during the week between Christmas and New Years... we all commented about the fact that we could literally walk onto the ride with absolutely no wait. It was the ONLY ride in any of the parks like that during that week. Sad, but if there's no people riding it, it does make sense to put in something else that can bring people into that space :-(

It didn't seem to "fit" in Disney, but it was a cool ride! Kinda weird how they portrayed you getting hit by a train and going to hell in the end.
