Why is there no variety in the park castles?

Here is a castle question. I heard or saw somewhere and it's bugging me because I can't remember where that DL was built while SB was still in production. So I find it interesting that Walt would choose that to be the castle when SB hadn't even come out yet. Cinderella would seem to have been what I thought he would have picked, the only thing that I can think of is that Walt wanted to promote SB.

From what I've been told, it was originally supposed to be Snow White's castle, but then like someone else mentioned, it was changed to Sleeping Beauty's to promote the movie. I think it wasn't supposed to be permanent, but then the name stuck. I would much rather the original park to have their castle named after their original princess, but oh well. And like others have already said, I agree that it didn't make any sense to do DLRP's for SB instead of Belle. I think those are really the only four princesses that need castles, but it definitely would have made more sense to spread them out among those four instead of going two and three for only two of the princesses.

The ones I've seen in person (DL, WDW, DLP) may have similarities but they all have some nice distinguishing features. DL did disappoint me though because it looks so small. I think if you were gonna pick one to rebuild it would be that one. The dragon is amazing at DLP and I love the themed stained glass windows of the suite at WDW.
Nothing's as bad as when they turn the castles into cakes. That was awful.

That would be Belle's Castle in Disneyland Paris.

Cindy's and Belle's are much taller than Sleeoing Beauty Castle. But maybe in different parts of the world they have height restrictions and limitations. Or even sight-line limitations in order to not disturb the show from other areas of the park. Just a thought.
PeoplemoverTTA is right- it is Sleeping Beauty Castle. But I can definetely see where the french name can throw you off, that it includes "Belle" in it. But remember, in French, "belle" means "beauty". That used to confuse me, too. :D

Huh? You seen Adventureland or Fantasyland???

Don't "huh" me. This picture looks like DL in November in the state of Maine. http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/dmk1021/view.jpg

For the record, Tokyo has worse weather per annum than Marne-le-Valle.

Worse? Do you mean COLDER and trees cannot hold their leaves there in the winter and all trees except evergreens loose their leaves?

I am glad they at least searched Spain... if they could not find the land there, then cancel the plan until they can figure out a way to buy Barcelona and plow all that history and culture under. (JOKING!!!!!)

I agree with Marni,HUHHHH!!!!!:shrug:We fabricated some things for DLP,and traveled over and installed them. The castle is incredible! The details inside and out are far more extensive, and quite frankly blew our minds. It is my favorite of all the parks.

I wasn't disappointed by DLR's castle at ALL. I think it's cute and quaint and PERFECT. And it's so historic, too. If ANY of the castles are demolished, I hope that is the one that NEVER is. I think it's actually my favorite. Cinderella's is a little "blah" for me.

Well.... most non evergreen trees loose their leaves between October and April in northern Europe. Kind of natural. Been happening on a 12 month cycle for quite a while.

Adventureland has such a variation of greenery that a lot of it is green year round. Enough to carry the theme - and the land is massive. Think WDWs Adland and Fland together. It`s no easy task carrying a tropical theme in January.

The castle at DLRP is REAL. This is the only disney castle in the world to be made from stone, all the others are fiberglass.

I don't know why this is though.
Um not quite. The castle has a substructure of concrete and steel. The upper level is a steel and painted fibreglass shell. The tall towers were made in Italy and shipped to Paris.

Def the best castle is at DLP. I think the space is utilized better there than at any other castle. And I've always hated WDW's because it's a restaurant and BBB and that's it. It always bothered me and I completely understood why once I got to DLP. And if you're still not convinced... there's a friggin dragon in the basement! So cool.

Sorry, but I have to kindly disagree. My favorite castle style is Cinderella Castle; the exterior architectural detail is stunning and still unmatched.

However, I will concede that DLP's interior and dragon are a MUCH better use of the space than an overrated restaurant and a hairspray fog.

EDIT:

DLP wins for landscaping too. If WDW would combine the DLP whimsical landscaping and dragon with the Cinderella Castle grandeur, they'd have an awesome castle.

The DL and HKDL castles look like plastic toys to me. I know about the history and all but—well—I'm not impressed. They're quaint in a this-was-cool-in-the-1950s-along-with-aluminum-Christmas-trees sort of way.

While we are on the subject of castles I have a question. Why was the restaurant in WDW originally called King Stefan's Banquet hall?
I heard somewhere that it was a tradition to name the banquet hall of a castle after the king's closest ally. The name was changed after people got confused and for better brand recognition.

I would LOVE to see Pocahontas' castle!!!!

I dont think she has a castle. Doesnt she live in a small village in the woods :veryconfu Besides she is one of those princesses that wouldnt make sense to have a castle. Like Jasmine unless your bulding a park in the middle east or Ariel but I guess they could have stuck her castle in Tokyo Disney Sea.

DLP castle looks awesome. I love how it's not just there with concrete all around it. That it's sort of looking like it's built into a mountain. DL castle really does look so small when you walk down the street, was a little weird to see after knowing WDW castle is really tall.

There is a funny story about SBC at DLR, in the planning of the park the castle was been design someone took the upper part and turn it around and mention that look better that way, Everybody was furious and ask to be return to it's original position, by the time they still some discussion Walt passed by and saw the castle and mention that indeed it look better.

This story was told by Marty Sklar. and is also featured in the Disneyland's Secrets, stories and magic
