Hello! Newbie here :). I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to post. I'm away at school and don't have and Disney pictures on my laptop and the ones I do have on my facebook, for some reason, I can't load as my avatar.
At little about me: Last timeI was at Disney back in April 09 for Disney's Grad Nite (Best.Night.Ever! So epic!) and I think I'm going back next month for Thanksgiving for some much needed stress reliever from school! : )

Anyways, I'm taking the Regents exam soon and I took a practice test today.
Out of 4 or 5 topics listed to chose from, I wrote on: Why are places like Disney World and Six Flags so fascinating?" (Great topic right?!)

I'm not a fan of Six Flags at all, so of course I wrote about what I knew...DISNEY!

I just wanted to get y'alls opinion : )

It's fascinating how WDW transports you out of reality and into their own little world. You literally do not have to leave WDW for anything. It's truly fascinating.

Welcome!

It's fascinating... how I can't get enough of WDW! There's some sort of addictive property to that place. I arrive home and I'm itching to go back again! I think it's the fantasy that Disney provides, it takes me out of the real world, and that's what I crave when I get back home!

Being an ex Six Flags seasonal employee, there is just no comparison between the two companies. There is nothing fascinating about Six Flags.

Disney on the other hand is a total vacation experience. In all the years that I have been I still feel as if I have only scratched the surface in what WDW has to offer. I leave and cant wait to get back as soon as possible.

WDW,is a recapturing of your youth,it takes you back to a time of make believe,a time of ....no worries....a time to enjoy & have fun!

Took the words out of my mouth.

The theme, attractions, shows, CM's and the rest are amazing. However, the fact that adults run to meet their favorite character with autograph book in hand is what does it for me. At almost any other place, this would be looked down upon, but here it is encouraged.

It's Magical!

Disney is Magical! It transports you away from the real world to a time and place where everything and everyone are wonderful, happy, smiley, dancy, and magical! From the time I enter to the time I leave...I have a perpetual smile on my face! And of course the place puts one in total awe!!!

I feel like a broken record, but, the most fascinating part of WDW is its addictive nature. I want to start planning a new trip before the last one has even finished.

The whole transport you to a different world can not be overlooked either. It is just so magical to be in the MK, or the world showcase, or online for ToT.

I won't be back for over a year, and I am already counting down.

Welcome!

As other have said, it's so fascinating because while you're there, you're in an entirely different world with all your necessities and wishes in one. Truly magical!

What is it about disney

WDW is truly addictive. It is an escape from reality of the world, to be a child again and enjoy the magic of make believe. No one does it better than Disney. Every time we go, I'll think that's it for a couple of years and by the time I get home I'm missing the World again. Hopefully, we will be back for another visit REAL soon. :sohappy:

I always went since I have been little then I stopped going in my Disney wilderness years (teens) where I thought I had grown out of all of it.

I was wrong. I took my now wife, two years back for a last minute trip. Needless to say we have been back ever since.

It's the fact that as soon as you enter Disney property, your worries seems to fade. Ok, lets no be unrealistic here. There might be the odd swear word here and there, but in general, it's just an environment that is removed from the daily grind.

Being able to walk with your wife and 1 year old daughter later at night, whilst disney music plays in the background is a wonderful feeling.

I think the Escapism you get at Disney is one of the biggest attractions, you can go there and forget about everything and just immerse yourself in the magic. And when you leave you want to plan your next trip, It's akin to an addiction, an addiction to Pixie Dust.

"Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tommorow and fantasy"

Since, as America, we don't have too much culture of our own - it is one of the few unifying factors. It (more than Disneyland, even) is so quintessentially American, with all the good and the bad that the term implies.

To echo what others have said.. When I am there I am as carefree as I was as a child. You don't get that feeling anywhere else. Only Disney brings that out in me to that extent. I don't think about the real world when I am there, I just have fun and enjoy with my family.

It's a place where their one goal is to make you happy. You walk into a store at Six Flags and there is one or two people sitting behind the register talking amongst themselves. You walk into a store in WDW and you are greeted by someone, another one wants to talk to your kids about their day, and others will do anything to help you. It is a world where anything is possible and you just forget your troubles, if even for a short time. It is an opportunity to remember a simpler time when there were no bills, no job, no worries, just fun and Mickey Mouse.:)

WDW is a place were they add a little magic that gets your brain into using your imagination and acting like a kid again. WDW is a place where there is no worries and stress. It's a place to unwind, relax, and for some to go and find your laugh and smile again. To me it's acting like a little kid again with my wife. The beauty of WDW is over whelming for the senses and treated as if people care when you arrive on site until you leave. Six flags is an amusement park where Disney is a dream.

I would like to offer an additional perspective. I am a huge fan of Epcot. In Epcot there was and still is to a certain extent a focus on how to improve and use technology in our everyday lives. Some of us go to see how this magical experience is supported by the technology. I am totally fascinated with the workings of everything. I am the guy that stands under a Monorail and takes a picture of the drive system. The guy that looks backwards to see how the heads pop up in the Haunted Mansion (I know you can hear the pneumatics). I want to see if I can find the pucks in the ground on the parade routes. If I could I would lift up the plates that cover the tracks on the TTA. Point is, it isn't just about magic for some of us, it is about the how. I assume that is why this has been called one of the great engineering marvels of our time. As I said, I just wanted to provide you with an additional perspective that says it isn't necessarily about the magic/fantasy/experience, but about how it all works.
