Why can't we critique Disney on this site?

Ease the tension with a little humor...seriously saw a t-shirt (either in Penny's or Wal-Mart)(quick, someone bash wal-mart)...shirt said " I'm right, You're wrong...any questions?"

1. Were is mom? I feel like i have not read a post from her in a while. Mom you out there?

2. Everyone has been real nice to me sinse I joined. I have, however, seen some bloodbaths in the forums. I suggest going to the bar room brawl thread to get out hostilities instead :p

3. Giants rule. Yes I know I post a lot about the awesomeness of the giants but I just can not help it... want to fight about it :hammer:

has anyone else had bad experiences with other members here when they try to critique disney? or have they all left this site for good in search of other more friendly open minded sites?[/quote]

Good luck with that one. As wacky as this place can get, it is much more mellow yellow than others I frequent.

Are you kidding, on another popular site (ha-ha), they have namecalling, feuds, stalking, people meeting in real life and getting at it and then coming back and sharing it with the boards, long time posters quitting the boards with all this crazy fanfare, and all kinds of rage-filled posts.

WDWmagic is a relative breath of fresh air.

I made a criticism once and got pounced all over by this guy for bringing up anti-Disney stuff. When I looked at his profile he had several posts himself criticising Disney. People just like to b**ch and be right. Mr. Pot meet Mr. Kettle.

why can't we critique disney on this site?

twice i have tried to critique disney on their drinking policy especially in epcot and have gotten numerous insulting responses both on the site and in private messages

i am a disney fan, not a disney fanatic, and it would appear that a great number of people here are fantatics

You can and others have the right to disagree with you. You also have to remember that it is not so much what you say as how you say it. Since people cannot tell your intended tone you have to make sure you word things properly. This is a very large community and you will always find somebody who will disagree with you and you will always find somebody who is looking to start an argument.

If you come across a post that is out of line then report it to the mods and let them handle it. Same goes for PM's, report them as soon as they come in.

The word fan is a diminutive of the word fanatic so by admitting to being a fan you are also admitting to being a fanatic when it comes to all things Disney, the difference it the degree to which you take that. Apparently others take it farther than you do. Do not put up with the garbage, report it and let the powers that be deal with it.

"disney in general stress people out way too much which they try to alleviate with drinking, and some (not all) drink way too much and lose control of their actions"

"we've all seen it and experienced it too many times in disney, don't deny it"

"the grandfather on the bus going back with the grand kids so drunk he keeps passing out during the ride, kids embarassed beyond words"

"I do not think he would approve, and in your heart, you know I am right."

"Put down the liquor and remember, kids are watching your actions. Yours, mine, and thousands of others. Start making a good impression instead of a drunken one."

I'm not seeing a whole lot of Disney critique here.
I see a lot of people critique though.

It's fine to have an opinion, but when things are written like they are above they're no longer opinions.

Now that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.....

And I have never come across anything like that in all of my trips to WDW over the years (and they have been many). If I did I would use it as a teaching tool for my kids though.

I can completely relate to the unfortunate experiences you have encountered with people that drank too much. While I see nothing wrong with drinking in moderation and Disney allowing alcohol in their parks, I do wish that people wouldn't carry it to the point of being billigerant. When I was a little girl, During the three times I vacationed in Orlando with my mother, who is an alcoholic, every time she did many things to embarrass me and give people problems in the park. She would start fights, try to get innocent CMs in trouble and make me wish I wasn't even there. From that perspective of having bad experiences with drunks, I completely understand your being upset. However, like I said, there's nothing wrong with drinking as long as one can control themselves. It's not right of the ones that PMed you and were insulting.

But hey- it's supposed to be The Happiest Place on Earth. I wish everyone could just get along and respect other's opinions and actions, just as long as they aren't hurting anyone else. :-) <--- General statement not directed at anyone in particular.

I'm the first to critique Disney when the do something that I don't agree with (Kingdom Tower DVC), but I will not sit idly back and watch other people complain for the sake of complaining which is the bulk of what happens on this site by certain people.

The SSE is not the end of the Disney Co. but some would have you believe that, and the list goes on.

Drinking doesn't bother me, but I know it bothers a select few. I'm sure the majority are fine with it as long as no one gets hurt. On my CP, I spent majority of my free time at the Adventurers Club and only had one drunk encounter. Securtiy handled it immediately.

This is a discussion site, and any time there is discussion, some people will agree and others will not. Most people here are Disney fans. That doesn't mean we think that all things Disney are perfect, but it does mean that we like Disney far more than we dislike it. :ROFLOL: You are free to express your opinion, and others are free to disagree with you. You have the right to expect courtesy and respect; if you feel you've been insulted or otherwise treated poorly, that's why we have moderators.

you can, but people don't have to agree with you.

It appears that some people take their opinions pro/con alcohol very seriously around here. ;)

That still does not excuse rude PMs or responses in posts. For the one thousandth time I will repeat (loudly and slowly, since people seem to have a problem comprehending me)

PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU POST!

If someone is asking a simple question, you don't have to interject your opinion about the subject, ie, 'How much does it cost to rent a wheelchair/ECV?" does not require a long vent about people who, in your opinion, are abusing the system.

When someone asks about Gay Days, or pool hopping, or reusing cups, etc you don't have to go into a long moral debate.

The same applies to the thread that prompted this one. Someone asking a simple question about whether or not a new "bar" will open in Epcot does not call for a rehashing of previous arguments about whether or not alchohol should be allowed anywhere in WDW.

But I still expect everyone to disagree politely, without becoming rude and sarcastic. Unless the same poster starts essentially the same topic more than a few times in a relatively short period of time. In that case, all bets are off. After 7 years here, even I have my limits. ;)

Bad things happen to people at WDW, sometimes it's the companies fault, sometimes not. Sometimes the company takes care of it, sometimes they drop the ball. Speaking as someone who understands this because of my own personal experience I can relate to those posters who try to find empathy from others who have had similiar experiences on this board. I take most everything for face value, and I try not to perceive any malice or read between the lines of the poster, unless given a reason to do so, then my choice is to ignore their post and not respond to it at all. It is silly to get into a long drawn out argument over a disputed point. If people get into a civil debate over two opposing points it can be entertaining to read and participate in, but when the argument degrades into a petty squabble over who's right, it's not even worth the time it takes to read.
