Why can’t we swim in the 7 Seas Lagoon?

IE- 7 seas lagoon. Plus, I rowed on a crew team back in high school, and for 2 years we held the bay lake regatta, and we would have to get in that water, and none of us ever got sick.. but I would NEVER go into 7 seas)

Yay, a rower! We currently own 2 singles and a double! (I knew there was a reason why I always liked you. ;))

I clearly remember you could swim in 7 seas at Poly years ago. We did and quickly returned to the pool. The lagoon water was not very inviting even then and you were not permitted to go out very far, I don't remember being in more that waist deep water if that. The lagoon at Poly beach actually had a wave making machine that worked only for a very short time after the resort opened. The machine would create low to moderate sized waves at the Poly beach. Some cast members would actually surf these waves and I think quests could take lessons. It gave Poly an extra effect. The machine is rumored to still be out there in the water, it was never removed after it stopped working.

The water in Bay Lake doesn't seem bad at all. River Country water is not the same as Bay Lake. I believe it is separated by a barrior under the walkway that crosses the watering hole. Just as pool water at W-Lodge doesn't really flow into Bay Lake.

I believe for overall safety, Disney just prefers you swim in the pools. With boats, fishing, bacteria, gators, e-coli, etc., the pools are just that much safer.

I know you said that in jest but there may be more truth to that than you think...I wonder if anyone knows for sure if there's a relationship between the opening of the water parks and the swimming prohibition. This makes more sense than a Disney Lake being polluted. That just doesn't pass the smell test and makes for a good smokescreen to cover the real reason.

...color me naive, but I never would have thought gators would be allowed to roam freely in the lakes...I would've thought that if one slips into the water and is spotted, it would immediately be removed.....the thought of a child being dragged into the lake by a gator would send a chill thru the backbone of Disney guests for years.

...without being tempted by rumor, does anyone know for sure if gators are allowed to stay in the lakes, has there ever been an incident concerning one....perhaps you floridians are use to these shoe leather animals but this Northerner wants nothing to do with animals with teeth that big.

Is Epcot's Resort Lagoon - Crescent Lake - safe for swimming? I'm sure that it is not prohibited, at least. Also. It's a natural lake?

A few years ago when I visited the Disney Institute, the instructor was a former animal control cast member. She said that if an aligator is ever spotted it is removed by animal control right away. They've had some pretty interesting animal encounters on property from the sound of it.

My recollection (from staying at BW twice) was that there are No Swimming signs posted. And I don't think it's a natural lake.

There is no swimming allowed in any lake on Disney Property. So if you see people in there that aren't CM's then they are not following the rules.

Crescent Lake is not a natural lake it is man made. But the water it in flows in from a natural body. All the Waterways (lakes) in WDW are connected underground. So the water in Crescent Lake is the same as the sassagoula river, but you can't get from one to another. Also, the water in the Sassagoula River is brown. Does anyone know if this is done to add to the Bayou affect of Port Orleans or is it natural?

Tramp,

As far as I know Pest Management will come and remove a gator if it is one of the lakes near one of the resorts, but I might be mistaken. I agree with you though, I do not think that Disney would let the gators near the lakes.

We asked our Illuminations cruise captain about gators on the property. He explained they are captured, tagged, and released in remote off property lands. Tagged gators who reappear are killed.

The color of the water is caused by the roots of the trees that grow along the edge of the water.

Now, the Beach Club Resort also has a river that separates the hotel from the parking lot. I don't remember if it ends somewhere or if is connected with Crescent Lake.

My dad and I saw a gator once on one of the golf courses at the The Golf Resort (now Shades of Green). Obviously this was a long time ago since it hasn't been The Golf Resort in many years.

We reported it at the clubhouse and they said that he lived on the course and that they were aware of him. He seemed to be a big one but we were a bit freaked out at seeing him walk across the course so he may not have been as big as he seemed.
