Okay so I've raided my "Enchanted Forest" picture folder....

First to give you an idea of the location of you park, you're literally in a forest. Note the giant walk through witch dead on the right.

Here's a pic from my hotel room in Portland last October. Beautiful.

First, let's get the downsides of the state out of the way. High taxes, high regulation, expensive housing on the coast, overpopulated cities, air pollution in certain parts, homeless problem, illegal immigration, bad traffic in cities.

In fact, most of these problems boil down to BIG CITY PROBLEMS that plague ALL big cities in the US & around the world. Traffic, overpopulation, high housing, taxes, air pollution, illegal immigration (to a certain extent) are hallmarks of living in the city. I don't deal with any of these issues because I live in a small town in CA, other than air pollution since I live in an agricultural region.

Actually... I live in a big city with none of those problems. Kind of something to be greatful for even if we all yearn for the California weather/lifestyle. We’ve got things going a ok.

Of course you'd stay in the Pearl District; I always knew you were a hipster. Or wait, that's just south of Burnside looking towards the east end of the Pearl. Were you staying at the Benson? That used to be the grand dame of Portland hotels in the 20th century, and I remember it had Portland's fabulous Trader Vic's just off the lobby. In the 1960's and 70's they always showed the hotel from the north with it's "modern" 1959 new wing and swanky Trader Vic's attached.

But now they always show the Benson Hotel from the north, with it's original 1910's Baroque building and lavish lobby. Trader Vic's is long gone, sadly. But Portland has a gazillion hipster restaurants to make up for it in the swinging late 2010's.

There are now many great boutique hotels in Portland, but the Benson and the Heathman Hotel up the street past Nordstrom are still that old school grandeur. Quite a step up for you Hans from the Little Boy Blue!

Hmm... just realized that photo is aimed from south of Broadway. Were you at the Hotel Lucia? Again, such a hipster you are!

I hate to burst your bubble but it was the Marriott Courtyard on SW Oak, one block south of Burnside. A perfectly fine property, but nothing special obviously.

Would it mend my shattered reputation if I told you I stayed at The Dossier Hotel in Portland in 2016?

Calgary

The secret is winter - which is a deal breaker for many I’m sure. But I love it.

Canada? Come on man. Canada has a TOTAL POPULATION of 36 Million. California alone has 40 MIL, US over 300 MIL. It's apples to oranges. LA METRO has 13 MIL heads. How big is Calgary? Like 1 MIL?

I was referring to MAJOR CITIES such as LA, NYC, Chicago, London, Paris, Rome, etc.

That being said, Canada is a BEAUTIFUL country and is on my bucket list. This might tick some people off, but I believe that Canada got the most gorgeous part of the ROCKY MOUNTAINS. The Canadian Rockies absolutely blow the US Rockies out of the water! BANFF NATIONAL PARK looks like the 2ND most beautiful place in the world, after Yosemite.

Ha I anticipated blowback over the size. Got nothing to prove, it’s a great place to live.

Banff is quite nice - albeit there are a few less touristed spots that are far better throughout Alberta/BC.

Wouldn’t call either the most beautiful places in the world though. Among some of many, many amazing places worth seeing for sure. I love California though, don’t get me wrong!

I stayed at the Benson once. Aren't I fancy?!

I got a Groupon for $50 a night. LOL And it was kinda old and gross in my room.

And when I got there I found out they charge $25 per night to park, and you had to use Valet service so I had to tip the guy several times. *sigh*
