Why are women dressing as princesses?

I was looking back at the photos from our recent WDW trip, and came upon some photos we took of two women dressed in princess costumes.

As we waited for our boat to arrive at the MK boat dock, we noticed a group of people walk up, two of whom were dressed in princess outfits, with the crown, wand (I think)... the whole works. Mind you, they were not kids, they were at least 17+ (if not older), and they did not appear to be mentally challenged...so what is the deal with this?

What are these girls/women thinking? I'm sorry, but it was just bizarre. :lookaroun I was done dressing up for Halloween by 6th grade. They probably just wanted the attention, but come on! The parents need to step in and say, "you're no longer age 7 - time to grow up."

Anyone else noticing this in the parks? It's the first time I've seen something like this.

I'll try to post some photos in my photo album (never done it before so please be patient!)

I've never seen an adult dressed up as a princess at WDW, although I have seen some adult women dressed up like a strip club waitress

Bet you they didnt make it past the turnstiles... Costumes are expressly forbidden to be worn by adults inside the Disney theme parks... To preserve character integrity

It's possible it was a birthday or something. I know more than one friend of mine has been forced to wear a crown, sash, and given a wand on their birthday by other friends of ours. A full outfit would seem a bit...well, extreme, but I could see it happening if their friends and family were motivated enough.

Ok, I posted the pics in my photo album. They're not very close up...we were sitting on a bench waiting for the boat. But, you can get the idea. It seems like they're with their family (brother, mom, dad, etc) and not with a group of friends, so it didn't look like any kind of prank. And I believe they were exiting the park, but who knows...maybe they were turned away? As you can see, they weren't dressed scantily, just in the full princess garb. Weird.

I'm only 28, so high school wasn't THAT long ago, but there was still no way in heck I would have dressed up like a princess at that age. I don't need to "lighten up" they need to "get a clue." I'm obviously a VERY big kid at heart (that's why I'm a wdwmagic member), as is my husband (34) but dressing up like a princess in public (past age 10) is just weird.

I took the picture when we were there in early May (just a few weeks ago). So, I don't think it was for Halloween unless they're just VERY early!!!

Adult Princesses

Yes, I have seen adults dressed in Princess garb. I assumed they were just "livin' the dream", and having a great time I might add! A little sprinkle of pixie dust is a wonderful thing! I might be a little tempted to don a gown myself :lookaroun , except I'm sure I would trip on it as I try to get in the raft for the Kali River Rapids!:animwink:

being a 17 (and a half) year old girl i can tell you... we would do this... and i am not mentally challenged... I tend to act like a theater/musical dork though so I guess that isn't saying much.

This is not that bizarre though. Come to my high school for a day and you will see many "characters" around my school.

Don't be so harsh they're only having a little fun. Who wouldn't want to be a princess for a day? It's better a princess outfit rather than a sheer t-shirt that says something rude and doesn't hide that roll of fat that tends to hang over skirts that are too short/tight.

Ok - I probably am being a bit harsh)...and you're right about the rolls of fat hanging out of the low rise jeans. :hurl: I do remember some interesting people at my high school, too (the goth people in particular) but a lot of them were really nice, too. I understand the need to fit-in to a group (any group) in high school is very important at that age.

But, the princess thing, in the parks, on a 17 year old (or older) is still a bit strange to me. :D

Disney does strictly forbid "adult" guests from entering the parks in costume, except during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. I do not know what they consider an "adult", but the purpose is so that other guests don't mistake them for actual Disney Princesses. I read of a girl who wore a Cinderella dress to MK on her birthday for breakfast at CRT. The CM's were very nice and escorted her to the Emporium where she picked out some shorts and a shirt to wear. When she got to the register to pay, the CM said it was "on the Mouse" which I thought was very nice as well. Hey, I can't wait to dress like the Evil Queen for MNSSHP this year - so what's that make me? :lookaroun

I did that one year at Mickey's Halloween party. Why? Because one of my favorite things about WDW is getting to be a kid again.

I was in my mid-20s at the time. There's a picture in my album somewhere.

I'm all for getting dressed up for Halloween! Everyone else is dressed up, so why not? But, these girls were dressed like that in May.
