Why are women dressing as princesses?

That's what I'm saying, Tahu. I've gone to Otakon every year since 2000, so I see all kinds of stuff (Even did it one year).

I see nothing wrong with wanting to dress up as a favorite character, even if I've grown out of it, I wont put others down for doing it.

Were the girls of spanish descent? They could have possibly been celebrating their "Quincenera" parties in WDW. I have seen many on cruise boats. Or possibly debutantes. If they were hispanic....my bet is that they were turning 15. It's just like a sweet sixteen except they have a full entourage of "bridesmaid" types with them.

I think the big thing here is just that there have to be rules in WDW to preserve, as someone else put it, character integrity. If random people from the general public are wearing convincing princess costumes, it's not like a 3 year old can tell the difference...and then it might get weird for the kids if there's, say, 4 Cinderellas walking around within a small area. It would, in part, blow the 'fantasy'. It's not necessarily about whether or not it's "normal" to be OK with dressing up in a Disney costume at WDW.

I think at one point someone told me the rule was also partially in place to keep "weirdos" or people of questionable character from coming to the park in convincing costumes so that they could attract children to them (hey, you hear pretty odd/scary stories these days, you know.) :hurl: I have no idea if such a situation would ever occur, but it is probably something worth putting rules in place to avoid. People can be odd/scary, and with a place like WDW where tons of people from every walk of life are going in and out every day, you're bound to encounter some creeps here and there.

I dont think I have ever seen an adult dressed like a princess in public, except at a Renaissance Faire. But just recently I was going to a movie with my husband and we saw 3 teens wearing jeans and then fluffy pink tutu's over the jeans? I thought they looked ridiculous. I guess I dont really care, but I guess if I had tried to pull that off when I was a teen my parents would not have thought I looked cute and my friends probably would have laughed at me. I guess things are changing? :lookaroun

As a girl almost through her teenage years, I can attest that (most) of us really, really like getting all dolled up, no matter the occasion. Why do you think we like Prom so much? The guys??

LOL That's hilarious. When I was a teenager I did a lot of ridiculous things like that..but a tutu over jeans... never did that. I think it has to do with the "I'm doing what I want and I don't care what people think" sort of thing with maybe a touch of "I want attention". It wasn't til I was about 19 when I developed my Jiminy Cricket about how ridiculous I looked LOL. I'm sitting here chuckling to myself because it reminds me of when a 2/3 year old starts dressing themselves. They think they look GOOD wearing the bathing suit with earmuffs and plastic princess heels and so do these teens.

As far as the adult women dressing up like the princesses... I saw the OP's pics. They were in no way quincenera age. They looked a lot older than the typical teen doing something like this also. I'm with the OP.. :veryconfu

I gather people who dress in replica sport uniforms or like their favourite pop stars are also nerds?

No. It's because Star Wars IS NERDY. I dress up for the Midnight premires myself. I do understand it is nerdy. I also wear a SWW shirt at least once a week, and even nerdier, my Weird Al SW "Saga Begins" t-shirt. So yes, dressing up SW is nerdy, and I endorse it.

Nerdy isn't what it used to be. If you are offended by the word, please take a few steps forward from the "Saved by the Bell" early 90's.

Sports people are trying to overcompensate for not being able to play themselves (I also have 15 Hockey Jerseys, 2 baseball, 3 football and a basketball) and Pop Star wannabes have twinkles in their eyes. I never said any were bad. But Star Wars is Nerdish.

I do have every Del Ray novel ever published and read most at least 2X. And yes EU kicks Cannon's butt.

NERDS UNITE, AND HOPEFULLY I'LL BE ONE NEXT YEAR. If you haven't seen the from Sci-Fi to Science or whatever the exhibit is called. DO. I saw it at COSI a few weeks ago. It rocked. I will now retire with all my nerd friends in the nerdery.

But what about all the thousands of people wearing Mickey Ears? So Many Mickeys... so little time...

Personally, I feel that a person could do a lot worse than to come dressed up as a Princess.

Glad you wear your Nerd badge with pride

This thread is probably one of the funniest I have read on this site so far, I am ROTFL........... I dress up at Halloween as the Wicked Queen and the kids in my neighborhood love it, especially when they are dressed as on the princessess..... I think it is fine for younger ones to dress up and live their fantasy out in WDW, but older ones I just don't get it, :brick: perhaps they are "challenged" or trying to apply for a job LOL. But if any of you are there in May when I am wearing my Bride Ears on my 18th anniversary, please don"t start a thread about the crazy redhead with Bride ears on and her grandson in tow.:drevil:

239 Days and counting:sohappy:

Awesome. Totally agree.

Can I get a show of hands of everyone else who got this...no?...No?...Just me and Jimbo? Okay, then...moving on...

The Old Republic comics linking with the Anderson novels RULED. Prequals did NOTHING but DESTROY an AWESOME contenuity. It was all throw away stories that didn't matter. It could have all been done in the Clone Wars cartoon format. I loved NJO for the most part. Can't get into Post-NJO though. I've been half way through the first book and can't pick it back up. PT killed the whole thing for me. TF.N isn't even on my favorites anymore. :(

I really thought that WDW would be a place where you wouldn't have to worry about people judging what you wore. Clearly I'm mistaken. If somebody wants to have a little fun, and it includes dressing out of the norm (But still in the bounds of whatever dress code states) I say do it. It's their vacation too.

Furthermore, you won't find me dressing up as anything but a tourist.

always in character....

On my last vacation I as well spotted a grown up guest in full costume. We where in line for the Haunted Mansion and I noticed a little girl in her snow white costume. I figured she must have just gotten back from the bibidy bobbidy boutique. When I looked who was with her, to my surprise, her mother was in the same costume with her hair all done up, and makeup, and glitter everywhere. I figured it was something Disney's now doing at the bibidy bobbidy boutique. Share the magic and experience. Don't ask me...if grown guests can now sport costumes on my next trip I'm so sporting my Sora Costume and keyblade and I'm 26 years old....yes i know...sad and pathetic but oh soooo much fun!!!!!

It will take years and dozen of novels to correct the damage done by the barage of Prequel media. I haven't even ventured into that territory just yet. I've read all of the post-ANH books and am just flat out scared to start on the mess of prequel novels.

And...er...grown-up princesses are weird...
