Who was the best Spaceship Earth narrator?

Jeremy Irons.....and by a very large margin. I happen to have an .mp3 recording of the Spaceship Earth ride spiel (before this latest update with the replacement of Irons by Judy Dench) and there's just something about his voice and the ride narration that really made it interesting.

I like when he says "the Renaissance".

Irons would top my list.

I have tried and tried to warm up to the Dentch narration but I just can not do it.I have no problem with the script but the voice simply does not fit. Patrick Stewart would have been a perfect fit (and I would love to know the details about what blew that deal) as would have James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman but Dentch just falls flat for that particular attraction.

Oh what could have been had they gotten Patrick Stewart to do that narration. There's not a more perfect voice on the planet for that role than Patrick's.

I'll agree with you on this. Great voice would have made the attraction the best.

But I'll go against the grain and take Judy as the current best.

I'm still dissapointed when I don't get hit with, "Behold the majesty of the Sistine Chapel."

Are there any recordings of the Vic Perrin version out there? For all of the historical documentation and the amount of attention Spaceship Earth gets around here I'm a little surprised I've never seen any recordings pop up.

The Walter Cronkite version is just okay to me. Obviously the man is an icon, and I think his participation probably gave a certain extra credability to SSE at the time, but I think having a "star" narrator pulls me out of the experience, instead of enhancing it.

Which is why I think I like the Jeremy Irons version the best. I think the subtle tweaks in the script and his delivery adds a hint of adventure and mystery as opposed to the matter-of-fact style heard in the Cronkite version.

As far the Judi Dench version, I haven't really heard it enough to consider it a favorite, but I don't think I can muster any hate for it either. It's different. Quite a bit different from the previous versions, I think. It's not as serious, and while I still get a hint of exploration, this time it's more like Dame Judi is on the adventure with us, as opposed to Irons' disembodied past-tense recollections.

I cant speak for the Dench version since i havent heard it yet, but i think i would have to say first place to Cronkite then Irons. Something about Irons voice gives me chills sometimes.

EDIT: i would have to say Cronkit since he was the first version i can recall as a child... and the best song in all of Epcot was born. Tomorrow's Child.
