Which WDW park do you think needs a DCA-style makeover the most?

It's really not. They've got one problem, which is the Backlot Tour. Everything else is fine.

I don't believe it was.

It could really be more cohesive, IMHO. Servo explains how the park works, but honestly, for a regular park guest, and even a fan, it does look random.

Nor do I. It had some probs, but I think most is exaggerated.

I didn't vote as I don't feel that any park really needs a big overhaul. I do agree with a previous poster in saying that they could use a new attraction here or there, but overall, I feel the parks are fine.

That's true, too, but MGM is close.

Then again, was DCA even that bad?:lookaroun

I don't thinl MGM is even close like Goofy pointed out BLT.

I don't believe it was.

It was a mess in May but not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. The only area that was terrible imo was Paridise Pier. This area of the park had some really nice themeing like the whole boardwalk area near California Screaming and TSM. The problem was all of the other cheap and Dinoramaesc attractions.

No. Don't believe the hype.. The original complaints for DCA were - 1. Not enough for families/little kids to do. 2. Not enough Disney/characters. 3. It's not Disneyland. Somehow this ballooned into an internet-wide 'DCA sucks', where bloggers like Lutz only helped to force that idea into people's heads. Now we have people who have never even been to DCA tell us how horrible the park is

The park went through many changes during its early years - adding/removing attractions to help solve some of those initial complaints (adding Bug's Land, removing Eureka parade, which btw was free of any Disney characters). And then of course there's the major expansion that is coming. Basically, it is mostly bad word-of-mouth that has been exaggerated throughout the years. Ask most people who have visited DCA recently and i'm positive most will tell you, 'This is the park people were complaining about?' People go in expecting this horrible park but end up being pleasantly surprised.

Not that it really needs it

But I'd love to see the company throw some money into the world pavilions.

Someone mentioned in another thread the idea of moving the Aladin Carpet Spinner to Morroco which would be awesome and add some life to the whole left side of that pavilion.

Then they just need to add an E-Ticket Mountain roller coaster in Japan, a show or movie in Italy, something to do in Germany maybe a simulator ride that takes you on the Autobahn. Then a big Cony Island style wooden roller coaster behind American Adventure. I'm pretty sure there's room back there. Ooooh and how about upstairs in Canada they put a free-fall water attraction where you go over the falls in a barrel. That would definitely pack in more guests per hour then the current movie.

Finally, close down the Oasis area and give us a real pavilion there. Maybe Russia, Australia, India, Israel or even Brazil.

I'm pretty sure there's room for at least three more countries back there maybe even 4 if they take out The old Odyssey building.

You have a lot of good ideas but I would be against moving Aladdin to Morroco. I am fine with Snow White, Alice being in the WS but Aladdin in Morocco is a stretch.

DCA was never that bad (ok, as a DISNEY park it sorta was) -- BUT the problem is, it is/was hardly worth the same admission price as it's sibling across the way. It is VERY hard for someone to justify paying $72 to walk through those gates unless they've got a 2fer ticket. Hell, I'd probably feel a little ripped off if I paid $42. I did once just to see what all the hoopla is about, and while I did enjoy a nice day free of any crowds, I just could never get myself to do it again.

This is a problem I think Disney has across the board. The fact is, not all gates have been created equally throguhout the years. It'd be great to see Disney discount admission prices for the gates that just don't have as much to do, such as DCA and the Studios park in Paris in particular. Over time these parks may be worthy of a full ticket price, but it hardly seems fair to ask that amount when you compare them with other properties and see how badly they're lacking in quality attractions.

None of them, because the whole point of the DCA overhaul is too inject some thematic blood that Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot have. Why would we need an overhaul to make our parks more like our parks?

Sigh, the posts in this thread makes my head hurt. Peace out ya'll! *Flying head of Al Gore blasts off*

I paid a full-price ticket to DCA four times before I ever bought an AP :lookaroun And yes, price was also another complaint. But you bring up an interesting point about "the park across the way from Disneyland". Any park that was going to sit directly across from the original Disneyland - Walt's park - would be severely criticized and would face harsh criticism. There was no doubt about that.

But the studios doesn't have much thematic blood *Runs and hides*

Really? Both are more famous and mentioned today then when the attraction was built. Ellen has her own top show daily and Bill Nye is always on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire...

Sorry thread drift...

Well I suppose, but internationally.... Not really many people have heard about them.

Continuing the drift, I'd have to say that Eleen is more popular and well-known now than she has been at any time in the last 10 years.

As far as Bill Nye, he is a little bit more obscure to many, but Alex Trebek and Jamie Lee Curtis certainly still speak to audiences.

The show is dated in several other ways, but I don't think the characters themselves are one of them.

Ok, so maybe It isn't, I was wrong... But heh, I'm from the Islands of Channel, they're definatly not known that well over here!

But really, we do need a new show, as good as it is (And it is still infotainment) I think we need an update to the story, and a bit more focus on "ridin' on sunshine", which I beleive we are back to doing!

 The dark side has many temptations.

Ok, I want a cookie, do I have to take an oath or are they drugged or something? :lookaroun

I'm going against the tide here, I always thought DCA was a major achivement to the walt disney company. The idea of stepping through a California postcard was a very unique idea I thought (ima miss the letters). Hollywood Pictures was fine (except the supersatr limo ride.. worst dark ride ever). The golden state is very well themed with the sand in condor flats and the pacific wharf. Paradise pier is just so beautiful and picture perfect. Sure that tack dinosaur has to go along with the minimal themed muholland madness. But to me the park was fine. Sure not disneyland caliber but I thought that wasn't what they wanted to do. But DCA is a very good park. Hey its better than the walt disney studios park in Paris :p

That DCA post card wasn't a big hit for an entrance, and wasn't the big gold sun supposed to reflect the sun's rays or something?

DCA continually had very low attendance for a Disney park. It's counterparts of DAK, DHS, Epcot, and TDS at the time all did way better in their attendance. TDL and TDS boast very high numbers and TDL is third behind MK and DL. There's no reason why DCA shouldn't be mooching off of DL's success. It never did, and if it doesn't make money then the mouse will change it.
