Which restaurant?

We're adding another sit down to our trip and I wanted to get some opinions on 2restaurants that we have never eaten at.. It would be either Liberty Tree Tavern in MK on a Sunday afternoon (~1:45) or Mama Melrose in DHS @ 12:00. The MK day is more of an arrival day thing whereas the DHS would be the day we're in that park.

Thanks in advance for the opinions.

The Liberty Tree Tavern is a nice choice. I really like the pot roast there. It's traditional American food (reminds me of my grandmother's cooking - yum!), so it's sure to please everyone in your group. Enjoy your trip!

I have never eaten at Mama Melrose's.

I have eaten both lunch and dinner at LTT. The food is good, not great. The service was fabulous. I was on the dining plan and they offered a great smoothie type drink as my beverage. The restaurant is easy to find and has a great location.
My only complaint is that the bathroom is extremely small. Go to an outside bathroom instead.

I've been to both and enjoyed both of them. Unfortunately, some of the magic at Liberty Tree Tavern is lost for me since they no longer have characters there. The food there is very good but in my opinion its nothing we wouldn't be able to make at home for Thanksgiving, so the characters were really what drew us there. Mama Melroses was a nice surprise for Italian food in MGM, I remember we had some kind of a 4-cheese flatbread that was very good. I guess it depends what kind of food everyone would like better?

Like Basketcase, I too have eaten at both and enjoyed them both.
I also was drawn to LTT by the characters. I had eaten there twice while the characters were there, I have not returned since they removed them :(
If you aren't looking for character dining it's a decent option. Food is good. Service great.

Mama Melrose is quaint. Good Italian dishes. Service was a bit slow (but we were there in July).

Take a look at both of their menus ... enjoy

Mama Melrose is to be avoided at all costs. Lower quality food than the Olive Garden. Whoever runs the kitchen there has a fondness for the salt shaker.

LTT is pretty good, but not the place to go for a "light lunch" lol.

I've also been to both. I was also at LTT with and without characters. I would have to agree that Mama Melrose's in probably one of the more disappointing dining options in all of Disney (and frankly, most of DHS dining feels that way - except Brown Derby). Mama's felt loud, slow, and had the feeling that tables were crammed in everywhere making for a very tense, rushed meal. I've done it twice - once in October and once in November - and both times felt the same way. I also thought the menu was limited. Besides - I'm having sit down meals at Disney to experience new things...having choices of standard Italian fare really isn't that new and different.

Liberty Tree felt special the both times I was there. I had it for our Thanksgiving dinner one year, and it was just fabulous. There wasn't much selection, due to it being Thanksgiving, but the food was "homey", there was plenty of space for the chacters to walk around, and the service felt downright welcoming. Food was average American fare, but was good nonetheless. The second time I was there, was a regular day for lunch. The service was solid, there was plenty of space in the place, and they even took us a little early for our reservation.

My personal choice would be for LTT. For that matter, for my upcoming trip in Dec, I have scheduled dinner at LTT just before our attending MVMCP. I have two different partial days allocated for DHS, and in neither case did I schedule a reservation in that park. I will be park hopping out of there when it comes to meals.

There are two things to consider in making your choice.

First, obviously, is the food preference. In that category, I would probably prefer Mama Melrose. We've eaten there 3 times, at I enjoy the food and the atmosphere. We ate at Liberty Tree once, when it was a character meal, and the food is good, but not great.

However, the other important thing to consider, is which park would you rather do on that day? Since it would be inconvenient to eat at one park, then go to the other, I am assumming that whichever restaraunt you pick, you will stay in that park for the evening. So again, it gets down to the question of which park you would rather do that day.

But again, if you totally don't care which park you spend that evening at, then I would probably vote for Mama Melrose.

No, don't go outside to use the bathroom unless you want to walk a little bit. There are no restrooms in liberty square.

I ate at the liberty tree tavern on labor day. I could not agree more with some of you, it's good, but not great. I had the pot roast GF got the roast beef sandwich. It's a cool place and very well themed. I think I can honestly say that I have never seen the inside of liberty tree tavern. It's great winter food. A lot of heavy meals are on the menu. Clam chowder was also pretty good. I would definitely go back, just when it's cold out though.

DH had the pork chop a few weeks back and could not eat it as it was SO SALTY..but the rest of our meal was very good. Other dishes were Chicken Parm, Chicken Pizza and Pep and sauage pizza.

Our family would put in a vote for Mama Melrose. Even after a very negative experience there this summer with a wait of over an hour for a ADR. Good food, good service, and they have been great with making off-menu item for our picky daughter.

I haven't eaten at Liberty Tree for many years. I remember it being a nice Thanksgiving dinner. But, for me, at least, Thanksgiving is for Thanksgiving, not a hot summer Disney day!

My $.02.

Meega, nala kwishta!
This one's easy, LTT. It was much better with the characters, but it's still a great meal. The honey butter for the rolls is wonderful. :slurp:

Personally, I can never find a thing at Mama's to eat. I just don't care for it.

So, where's my turkey, ham, and beef? Waiter...bring more food!
