Which Moderate resort do you recommend?

Hi all! We are heading back down to DW the last week of Oct. This will be our fourth trip and plan on upgrading to a moderate resort. (We've always stayed at POP on previous trips). Anyway, just curious which of the four moderate resorts is recommended. We will only need a regular room (not a suite) since it will just be two adults, one 11 year old and a two year old.

I'm also curious about the dining plan. We've also never taken advantage of it before, but are looking into doing it this year. I've seen a few posts about people not liking the changes. If we've never used this option before will the change be a big deal to us? Or is it just a change for those used to using that plan?

Questions, questions. I feel like the more we go to DW the more questions I come up with each and every time I plan the trip. LOL!!

Thanks to all the experts out there!!

The bus situation depends on the time of day and year. Sometimes POFQ and POR share a bus; sometimes they don't. I was nervous about the bus situation at POR after reading all of the comments about it. However, the worry was for nothing. The buses worked out well.
The four stops were not that big of a deal. The bus system always made sure enough buses were dispatched to handle the crowds. The bus drama surrounding POR is just that - DRAMA.

I wanted to add something to this. I have never stayed at POR but I have stayed at POFQ, and agree that the bus situation does depend on the time of year, but it is not just drama. I've witnessed first hand the frustrations of POR guests have endured not being able to get on a bus that was already full of POFQ guests. It is standing room only at times and only picking up maybe two guests. I've heard very angry people saying this is the second bus and there's still no room, etc. So it does happen, maybe not all the time but I've seen it in August and October so you be the judge.

PO:FQ won't disappoint you. I loved it for all of the reasons everyone's already said.

Just remember, you can always resort-hop for dining/swimming/etc.

Also, we did the Carriage ride at the PO's, and it was well worth it. Nothing caps off dinner like a night time carriage ride.

Sure you will love the French Quarter. Although we have never stayed there, we have walked around the resort and it is quite lovely (better than the Riverside--which we would never even consider for many reasons). Our favorite is the CSR and we never stay anywhere else anymore (exception was 2004 when we took our oldest son and his girlfriend for his high school graduation...we did a deluxe and stayed at the Polynesian because it was a little more "romantic" for them). But we love the landscaping, the pool (both the Dig Site and the quiet pool), the food court and the quietness of the CSR.

We stayed at CS and I have to say that I wasn't keen on the idea before we went but when we arrived, I loved the place! It is a big resort but there are all different bus stops that you can get on or off the bus so you don't have to walk far if you don't want to. They have a big main pool but each set of buildings has its own quiet pool too, we found that these usually just had one or two kids in them and everyone else was just sunning themselves so it was lovely for relaxing!

I haven't been to any of the other resorts yet, but we're hoping to go to POR next year.

Definitely, Port Orleans. either one, but FQ is more compact. the kids will love the pool. and yes, POR does have water rentals and bikes.

The only one i have stayed at was CBR and I did not really care for it. I would like to try a different resort down the road. CBR to me i was not impressed with the theming.

I agree with so many other posters that POFQ s the best. I have not stayed at CSR but have stayed at the other three mods. My family really loves FQ. We are staying there again in April and can't wait. The size and the atmosphere are just awesome. Plus you get the added benefit of sharing everything that POR has to offer (TS rest., pools, beautiful grounds)

We love POR better than POFQ, I guess we are in the minority!
We'll be staying there again starting 2/10. We've been doing mostly Deluxes lately but we wanted to do a cheaper trip this time. Got a $99 per night AP rate, too good to pass up!

:animwink:Hands down POR!! Love the scenery and the pool is nice. You really feel like you are in the "swamp":lookaroun Have stayed there several times and like it better than Coronado or CBR. The lounge has piano man BOB that everyone raves about!

I agree with the suggestions to use the dining plan. The changes make it less of a value, but it is still a good value if you eat at a table service every night.

Well, I'm in the minority here, but I prefer CBR.
It was the first Disney hotel we stayed at, so there is a sentamental reason.
I also prefer the theme to either PO or CS.
That said, it is the oldest and is really spread out.
But I really am not a fan of the DTD area nor do I like the CS theme, so I default to CBR.
Of course, my real preference is WL!
