Which do you prefer- Drive or fly

I know not everyone has a choice, but for those who do- Would you rather drive or fly to orlando?

We live in northern Pennsylvania and actually choose to drive. It takes about 18 hours but it's all part of the fun. The anticipation, watching the states pass by. Counting the pedro signs on i-95 leading up to south of the border, between NC and SC. South of the border itself is great. The tackiest tourist location ever, but again, part of the fun.

On our next trip(we'll be leaving in 13 and a half days!!!!!)we are going to spend sunday in daytona and hit the parks during the week.

:)

I wouldn't mind to drive...even though it would be 22-24 hours. I think the drive down would be fun...excitment and anticipation mounting. However, I would not want to drive back that long distance...it would be too depressing!

We've done it both ways, and even tried Amtrak one year. Mr. Disneyfan loves the drive, but I refused once the kids hit teenage years. Now that it's just us two, I will allow him the drive down. After we're out of NJ, it's not too bad and is a great stress reliver.
I use to drive back home as time to slowly "decompress" and return to my normal life.

:wave:We love the drive. There are always road signs that I look for that tell me Disney is closer and closer. I hate to be rushed so I don't think flying would be good for me anyway. Everything I've ever had about flying is rush, rush, rush and be on schedule. Driving lets us make our own schedule. My husband and I are both teachers so we have the luxury of time (at least in the summer) to break the drive down so that it's not a straight 17-18 hour shot from WV to Orlando. If either of us had jobs that didn't give us the luxury of time in the summer, flying might be our choice.

Like Steph mentioned, we used to drive but after a while (I have fibromyalgia and my sister has juvie rhumatoid arthritis), driving got pretty hard, so we began to fly (though I didn't go much during that time). I used to love the drive down though - my mom would sleep the seven hours before we left (using a light sleeping aide - like a mom could sleep before vacation wondering if everything is packed! Which it always was the day before), and my Dad would drive the first two hours. Then, once my Mom was awake, she'd drive the next seven hours or so. Then, they'd switch and my Dad would finish the 17 hour drive from New Jersey to my Grandparents who lived about an hour from Disney (where we stayed to save money). We'd play Disney soundtracks and classic song collections for a while to get the mood going, and it's a great memory. It's not that I don't like flying - I love flying. I just really love the Disney drive. Of course the drive home is like slowly dying.

However, now that I've got my thing under control, my Dad is driving down with me to Disney in Jan for my college internship and leaving me the car - he'll be flying back. We're gonna break it up over two nights, though.

We have had 16 visits to WDW, and only once have we driven. Given a choice I would fly, but because of the price of airfare, the convience of flying goes the way side most times at this point. We are going for a short visit in Nov., but we were able to get a decent price for the flight. We have another planned for March, Grand Gathering, we will drive for that one. We pass by SOTB because it's a tourist trap, and I want to spend as much time as possible in WDW, but if by some great chance an unbelieveable airfare comes around, my butt will be on that plane. :animwink::D The drive itself wasn't bad, long and different, but still being stuck in the car with my 2 crazy sons and impatient wife who wants to get there as soon as possible does have it's downside. Overall, I would say fly for time, drive when you want to do something different.

We have never flown, and I would like to try it eventually, but because we've driven so much, it's like it's part of the trip now. We also live in northeast Pennsylvania, and the drive is about 18 hours, but for some reason, it just doesn't bother me or the rest of my family. We have a lot of fun stopping for food and of course seeing the obligatory South of the Border signs. Flying is definitely a whole lot more convenient though, and a lot less tiring.

WooHoo! We loved those South of the Border signs! YEAH!

We live in Ocean City Maryland and it's about a 14 hour drive but we split it into 2 days and it works out fine for all of us. We love leaving a day early and stopping along the way:)

I like driving but we always fly. The reason? We can't spare the time to drive down and back. It would take away from our days in the parks.

I'll be taking my first roadtrip from NYC (18+ hours!) this Thanksgiving. I'm prepared for a totally different type of experience, but could be nice, also.

I personally love flying because it's a great chance to catch up on reading and work.

Living in West-Central Illinois, it's about a 22 hour or so trip to drive down to the Lake Buena Vista. That doesn't include the stops for fuel, bathroom, food, and the hotel. We've done it before and I've gone by bus (with my high school marching band...what a trip:lol: ) and it's ok if you don't mind all the extra time required.

However, 9/10 times my family and I will fly down. Thankfully we have service from AirTran Airways at two airports about 45 minutes away from my home town. During the busy months of the summer, they offer nonstop flights both to and from Orlando Int. Airport. The other great thing about AirTran is the cheap airfares you can snag. We never pay over $200 per person round trip. Plus everyone in my family loves to fly so you can't beat that!

When I lived in Alabama we drove almost exclusively (only flew one time - I hated not having my car). Now that I'm in Texas flying is the only logical choice - I just don't have enough vacation time to spent 19 hours each way traveling!

DD and I fly - we want to get there ASAP!! And for 2 girls traveling alone, I just feel safer.

Our first 2 trips whan DD was small, DH made the trip, also, and we drove. Of course, we're talking about a man who will haul a load of horses to Ocala (14 hours non-stop) and then turn around and head for home the next day. Driving doesn't bother him.

Since he's not into Disney like we are, DD & I travel by air, and he spends his vacation driving to and hunting in Montana. I figure it this way, not having to pay for him to go more than makes up for the cost of the airfare for the two of us.

I've done both. As a kid I always loved the drive down, but was miserable on the way home. Now that we have started flying down, I feel like we get more time in the parks. We live in Maryland so we always take an early flight, usually between 7 and 9am, and we get checked in and to the parks at lunch time. We also have extra time on our last day, we always choose a flight at about 6pm. So we get the morning and some of the afternoon at the parks, hop on the plane and are home at about 10pm. I just feel like we get so much extra time at the parks by flying:)

I've driven twice--once with my entire Girl Scout troop (7 girls & 2 parents in one van, WOW), and once with my parents (coming back from my CP). From South Texas it's 2 full days, and one of those is spent just getting out of Texas! Flying is much faster and easier :)

We would rather fly.
I have driven to WDW twice & I have flown twice.
We live 12 hrs. away, so flying is better for us.
Although driving is not out of the question if it means a trip to WDW. :)

I'd rather fly. If I had a better car and someone to drive with me, then maybe I'd drive. But, it takes 24 hours to reach Orlando from here and I'd rather get there in the 2.5 hours that it takes to fly. That way I can get into the parks earlier! :)
