I was thinking the same thing...I have to ask - do you really eat the cake with all that sugar piled on it? Or at least brush it off a bit before eating? My teeth hurt just looking at it!

Oh no! That would be sacrilegious. The sugar is really fine and soft. It's not hard at all.

I've had king cake, in NOLA, and I don't remember it having THAT much sugar on it! Rather it had colored icing, with a dusting of sugar.
Perhaps the picture doesn't represent it properly? (tis always possible) It just looks like someone dumped out some McCormick colored sugar on top! (which, based on what you said, isn't the case at all!)

Hmm, I've never heard anybody complain about king cake hurting their teeth. Just that its fattening.

I have sensitive teeth (due to receding gums), so too much sugar isn't good for them.

King cake is just awesome!
Lots of places make king cakes like that. Those are delicious too, but I prefer mine covered in sand sugar.

I managed to have a few ready before bed. First up is one of Bloomingdale's window displays. There was too much reflection on the other windows there.

Search for Plastic Thali on EBay. Looks like they have a few different styles, in packs of 50, and they are disposable....
