Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Mike and I went to Simcoe to “see the lights”, an annual tradition since we started going out in 1985. We haven’t missed a year yet.

Even in December, 2020 when we were still in very strict lockdown and weren’t allowed to get out of the car, we went. It was drive-through only. No parking. No stopping. No getting out of the car. That’s the year I wore my jammies. 😂

Think Mike and Spenser are a little too tall to fit.

Jennifer, is Simco a company up there that sponsors the light display on their property, or is this a community park area, that various businesses sponsor the light shows? Anyway, it's very cheery. Thanks for the photos!

Wine doesn't really work like that. The white is a Pinot Grigio and the red is a Sangiovese, both are well-known, popular and readily available wines. The Pinot Grigio pairs well with all kinds of fish, and the Sangiovese is perfect with tomato sauce (or gravy, as @Figgy1 and I call it) dishes, although a tiny bit heavy for fish.

It is definitely a marketing ploy to get the consumer's attention at Christmas time, so you're 100% right about that part. As evidenced by the fact that we bought four bottles of the red Sangiovese, when I would really rather have served a Barbera with the fish. :)
I will have enough common sense and respect for what others enjoy to not pretend I am any expert on the subject. I will say that even though I have attended a wine tasting event at a vineyard/winery in Tuscany a few years back, the bulk of my wine experience comes from the Boones Farm family of the fine vinification of the fermented grape. I will say that I did find some of the comments on specific wines sampled to be amusing. 🍷:)

Simcoe is the name of a small town about 1/2 hour away from where we live. In 1958, the annual Santa Clause parade was a bust because of terrible weather, so the organizers decided to park several of the floats in Wellington Park for people to enjoy at their leisure.

Over the years, the floats were made into more permanent displays, refurbed annually, and are installed every December throughout the park. I don’t think even the shells of any of the original displays still remain, but the original theme of nursery rhymes still pops up; hence the three little pigs, and the four and twenty blackbird pie (not pictured). I didn’t see the mouse that ran up the clock this year though, now that I think about it.

Spenser was very disappointed that his favourite display, the Grinch, was MIA. It has been his favourite since he was a toddler. Ski stopped coming with us about 10 years ago, but he usually goes separately with Gen, so he is starting his own tradition, which is what Christmas is all about.

As I said, Mike and I have gone every single year since we started dating in 1985, making this 39 years straight. And now I feel old. 😂

I got my wrapping done today. I hate wrapping. Like cooking, my efforts are perfunctory at best. The results are serviceable, but nothing that would ever make you say WOW!

I’ve also pared down my gift spending this year. Money is tight, and with an apartment to outfit and furnish, Mike and I are buying each other “practical” gifts.

This is a literal quote of what I said to Bestie the other day ….
I love “practical” gifts. Divorces have happened over ironing boards and multi head screwdrivers, and I’m like “gimme, gimme, gimme”.

We have a £20 limit on presents for each other this year as we are doing two cruises next year and that's the real present.

It’s important ladies, and it could save your life.
For me, the actual procedure doesn’t hurt one bit; although my chest wall feels achey afterwards for a day or two. Totally worth it.

Assuming there are no concerns with today’s scans, I’m all set for another year.

Always a good reminder. My mom always complained about the mammogram so I dreaded going for my first one but after I had my first one I wondered why she complained it wasn’t that bad. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t something I enjoy but the way she described it, I thought it was like being put on a medieval rack!
