Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

I had told them I wasn’t moving in for a bit, so if they needed to delay a week or two to complete the total renovation, no problem.

Well, they said it was ready, but it’s not. No appliances; there is a big problem with the ceiling in the laundry room; smoke and CO detectors are not installed; two of the mirrored closet doors only have one slider each; and the window that needs replacing is on back order (that one I knew about). Honestly it feels pretty rushed and slapdash.
That's a very nice looking space, and you'll make it look like home in no time once you move in there. As for the slow installation, repairs, etc., that's typical in rental units. Lived in rentals most of my life, so I've been there. Good thing is you have some time before you move in.

In Ontario, Canada (where I live), the minimum wage for servers is the same as the general minimum wage. (It used to be a buck or two less for servers, but now it’s not.)

When I graduated from High School (yes, I know when we still used stone tablets) minimum wage was $1.10 per hour. I can remember day dreaming about earning $10,000 per year ($4.80 per hour for 40 hours). That would buy you a decent home and two cars in the yard plus raise a family comfortably. How times have changed now people have all they can do to survive (single) on $15.00 per hour. It really is sad how wonderful (sarcasm) capitalism has worked for the bottom groups.

That will probably never happen in the USA. One side favors raising the min wage. Another side staunchly opposes raising it ( ie to $15 per hour ). I know one thing , if I was a small business owner and I have to raise the min wage, I'm surely going to pass higher labor costs to the consumer.
Small business owners have to do that. Big businesses don't, but will anyway.

NJ seems to be leading the way , in 2018 NJ min wage was around $8 per hour in a few weeks min wage will be $15. Tipped staff still make around $5 per hour but tips during their shift can be very lucrative. I expect a significant price increase in menu items in the near future . Those higher labor costs will be passed onto the customers.
States with the highest min wage in 2024 are: (number one is DC but that's not a state)

Washington
California
Connecticut
Jersey

21 states are still at $7 an hour.

Tipped wages are all over the place. 16 or so states have the at the federal level which is $2.13. A few states have banned it (though I would still like to see if they receive tips still). To everything in between. Honestly, the whole thing is a mess with restaurants adding surcharges for healthcare and everything. We should just wipe everything clean and start over.

I went to check out the new apartment today. I’d planned on changing up the colour scheme maybe a little, but considering almost everything so far is pilfered from the house or trailer … teals and blues it is. 😂

That being said, I love it. I’ll do a list and give them some time to work out the kinks.

It’s pretty sparsely furnished right now, because this is all that fit into the pickup truck. I had planned on picking up the bedroom suite when it FINALLY comes in, but yeah, to heck with that, they can deliver!

Living room. The chaise lounge is disassembled because I had to clean the upholstery and it’s drying.View attachment 757234View attachment 757235

Dining room. No table and chairs yet, just a desk, so maybe it’s an office for now.View attachment 757236

The spare room. Eventually (read - when I make some money!), I’d like to put a small pull out sofa in here.View attachment 757242

The totally empty principal bedroom. I don’t think the dresser is going to fit along with the king size bed (with drawers) and nightstand.

The bathroom. All stocked, sans toothbrush and band aids, which if you know me, are pretty much the two most used items in a bathroom cabinet.View attachment 757241
It reminds me of the apartment my wife had when she attended U-Mass. It was a nice little place that overlooked the bay and the Kennedy Library. It was during the time of the "Big Dig" and you could also see the added piece of land being establish on the southern side of the bay. Everytime I went to Boston to visit her that peninsulas got bigger and bigger. I hope that Boston never has an earthquake of any size because I think the whole Back Bay will get a lot larger and Boston will get to be a bunch smaller. I don't remember, perhaps you folks that live there can tell me what that area of Boston is called. The apartment complex was establish from an Army Camp and the barracks made into apartments. It was a nice enough place but you could still see the military influence in the stair cases (no elevators).

South Boston, I think. If you look the the dark green (when Boston was British) to today....it's crazy.

Yes, South Boston! I remember that I could also see the planes coming in for a landing from her apartment as well. Thanks for the info. It's kinda scary when you look at all that 1995 shoreline that is mostly composed of landfill. Very unstable ground and now consists of the large "hills" that once were part of Boston, except elevated, and now the Big Dig residue.

The strangest surcharge I had gotten a year ago was at the bagel shop where I go to. I had extra butter and cream cheese at home so I got some fresh hot bagels to go. For the first time I asked them to slice them in half for me. When I paid for the bill I asked did the prices of the bagels go up? The girl told me she charged me .05 cents a bagel extra for staff to cut it in half. Moving forward I never asked them to cut a bagel to go in half again. Another thing moving forward is cash is king to avoid the credit card surcharge many places are sticking to the customer.

Yesterday was a fun day. A few friends and I went to Madison for some Badgers games. We started with men's basketball at 11:30. Then we hung around Madison for a while until the men's hockey game at 8:00.

We beat #3 ranked Marquette in basketball in a dominating fashion. We never trailed. In hockey, we beat Ohio State easily. It was a great day.

I'll post some pictures from our seats of each event.

The basketball and hockey teams actually play in the same place. They put together the ice rink after the basketball game. It's amazing how much they change out in the few hours between games.

The second picture is of the student section storming the court after the win over Marquette.

My sports related positive news is regarding my daughter's college...their football team went 13 and 0
They will play in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day!

Congrats to Liberty, they have got a tall order taking on Oregon. It should be a good game. What impressed me reading about Liberty Univ is that there is a dress code, honor code etc that is enforced. Unique and impressive to prepare the students , post graduation.

I just watched Luminous on a live stream. Without spoilers, I liked the intro. I loved the finale. The in between was pretty boring. I'll always hold full judgement until I see it in person, but Illuminations was still better.

When they try to incorporate Disney movie music into Epcot, it just doesn't work.
