This January will be the final year that the minimum wage in NJ rises by one dollar. It was $11...then $12...etc. This Jan. 1st the NJ minimum wage will be $15.
NJ seems to be leading the way , in 2018 NJ min wage was around $8 per hour in a few weeks min wage will be $15. Tipped staff still make around $5 per hour but tips during their shift can be very lucrative. I expect a significant price increase in menu items in the near future . Those higher labor costs will be passed onto the customers.

They don't bother me. They hang at the lake, don't bother with anybody and leave a couple of months later
They’re very aggressive during nesting season. Some businesses have to reroute customers in via “back stage” entrances as it were, if a mating couple nest too close to the front entrance.

And of course, there’s the poop. It’s green, gross, full of disease-causing pathogens, is enticing to dogs, and it’s EVERYWHERE!

They’re not even good eating apparently, so except for the occasional majestic V-formation in the sky, they’re kind of a useless species. Like most politicians.

The last part is not always true. Some dining establishments don't follow the law where if a server doesn't make MW they pay the difference, some places require pooled tips to all staff even cooks, some places treat staff well but not all

The cute ducks hang where the people do (somebody is there 24/7 so the predators stay away) , the geese that stop here generally avoid people and turkeys as the turkeys won't put up with them. The hawks and eagles look at them like lunch;)

Can’t the wait staff report this infraction ( ie pay to make the difference ) ? This would make not so negative news in the media and reporters would like to jump on this story . My experience working in kitchens and dining areas back in the day was not all employed actually were legal to work but that’s another story.

Yah, Canada geese can be a nuisance at times, even down here. And yes, they do poop a lot! :jawdrop:

I like Mexican food like tacos and tortas but the late great foodie Anthony Bourdain mentioned in an episode if undocumented immigrants did not work in the food and beverage industry in the USA that the industry would collapse.

I went to check out the new apartment today. I’d planned on changing up the colour scheme maybe a little, but considering almost everything so far is pilfered from the house or trailer … teals and blues it is. 😂

I had told them I wasn’t moving in for a bit, so if they needed to delay a week or two to complete the total renovation, no problem.

Well, they said it was ready, but it’s not. No appliances; there is a big problem with the ceiling in the laundry room; smoke and CO detectors are not installed; two of the mirrored closet doors only have one slider each; and the window that needs replacing is on back order (that one I knew about). Honestly it feels pretty rushed and slapdash. There are a couple of wall repairs where it is crazy obvious they painted wet spackle. 🤦🏻‍♀️

That being said, I love it. I’ll do a list and give them some time to work out the kinks.

It’s pretty sparsely furnished right now, because this is all that fit into the pickup truck. I had planned on picking up the bedroom suite when it FINALLY comes in, but yeah, to heck with that, they can deliver!

Living room. The chaise lounge is disassembled because I had to clean the upholstery and it’s drying.IMG_5116.jpegIMG_5125.jpeg

Dining room. No table and chairs yet, just a desk, so maybe it’s an office for now.IMG_5114.jpeg

The appliance-free kitchen.IMG_5119.jpeg

The spare room. Eventually (read - when I make some money!), I’d like to put a small pull out sofa in here.IMG_5124.jpeg

The totally empty principal bedroom. I don’t think the dresser is going to fit along with the king size bed (with drawers) and nightstand.
IMG_5123.jpeg

The bathroom. All stocked, sans toothbrush and band aids, which if you know me, are pretty much the two most used items in a bathroom cabinet.IMG_5121.jpeg

Nice little place

Thank you. It will be fine once it’s furnished and zhuzhed up a bit. Even better, it’s two minutes to the gym, and less than five to work!

There’s a lovely balcony partially overlooking a small pond, so that will be nice in the warmer months. (Hopefully it’s not over run with those dreadful Canada Geese.)

My commiserations it's so close to a gym 😉

That's a very nice looking space, and you'll make it look like home in no time once you move in there. As for the slow installation, repairs, etc., that's typical in rental units. Lived in rentals most of my life, so I've been there. Good thing is you have some time before you move in.

In Ontario, Canada (where I live), the minimum wage for servers is the same as the general minimum wage. (It used to be a buck or two less for servers, but now it’s not.)

When I graduated from High School (yes, I know when we still used stone tablets) minimum wage was $1.10 per hour. I can remember day dreaming about earning $10,000 per year ($4.80 per hour for 40 hours). That would buy you a decent home and two cars in the yard plus raise a family comfortably. How times have changed now people have all they can do to survive (single) on $15.00 per hour. It really is sad how wonderful (sarcasm) capitalism has worked for the bottom groups.
