Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Late Thursday evening, I found out that my mom’s oldest sister was quite ill in hospital and that her kids and grandkids had been called to be with her. She passed away on Friday at supper time.

That’s one Auntie in December, and the other just 6 months later. If you believe this kind of stuff (and you know I do), the three sisters are reunited in Heaven. RIP, my dear Aunt Shirley.

This is probably one of the last pics of the two of them together. COVID came to town just 6 months later, during which time, they were only able to see each other three or four times. 🙁
Please accept my condolences on the passing of your aunt Shirley.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Were they very close? At least they are together now.

The three sisters were very close. My mom and Aunt Jan more so, but simply because of their closeness in age. (Aunt Shirley’s father was killed in the war when she was 5 or 6, and my Nan remarried and had the other two girls, so Aunt Shirl was 9 1/2 years older than Auntie, and 14 years older than my mom.)

Aunt Shirl fell and broke her hip in October while I was living with Auntie. I did make it up to the hospital to see her a few days later, but then COVID hit her hospital ward, herself included, so she got locked down for 3 weeks.

While Auntie was in her last weeks, Aunt Shirl moved 3 hours away to an assisted living facility where her DIL and two grandchildren work because she never bounced back from the hip surgery.

My cousin (not her daughter) and I had been planning a weekend away to go visit with her. And now it’s too late.

Moral of the story - take that visit, make that phone call, send that card ….

This morning we went to Epcot. The rest of our 5 joined us. We did stand by for Test Track, then used our virtual queue for Guardians, then Frozen and Gran Fiesta Tour. We rode Living with the Land and Soarin before eating lunch at Sunshine Seasons. Then we left.

Now we are at Animal Kingdom. We did the Safari, then Festival of the Lion King. Then we did Na'vi, Everest, and Dinosaur. Now we're standing in an extremely long line for Flight of Passage.

After Flight of Passage, we split up. Some went back to their resorts, and some went to Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic. I chose resort. I had chicken strips and a cookies and cream milkshake at the food court. Then I took a walk around the resort. It's so peaceful. I sat by the pool for probably about 15 minutes.

I think one thing I'm taking away from this trip is that I'm starting to enjoy the relaxed portions of the trip more than before. I always used to try to get as many rides as possible, but some of my favorite moments were strolling through the Gran Destino, leisurely eating around the world, walking around Riverside, etc.

That's great that you enjoy the more relaxed bits. My daughter and I are kind of like that, too, but more focused on the food. So much of our Disney vacation is experiencing different restaurants and snacks. We love the fun theming of places like 50s Prime Time and Whispering Canyon. Of course we enjoy some rides, but we're definitely not park commandos.

This morning we rope dropped Rise, then did Tower, Mickey & Minnie, Rock n Roll, Toy Story Mania, and Slinky. Then we came back to the resort for lunch. My dad and I ran over to Disney Springs again, and I picked up a little statue type thing with a bunch of street names like they have in the Walt Disney Studios in California. It's part of the Eras collection. I saw it there the other day, but haven't seen it anywhere else. Today was the last time we'd have a chance at Disney Springs, so I went for it.

We're off to MK in a little bit.

At Magic Kingdom we rode Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Big Thunder, Peter Pan and It's a Small World. We were going to do Haunted Mansion and fireworks, but we got rain/stormed out. They are currently doing Happily Ever After, but we didn't want to risk it. Not sure why they're doing it since there's lightning in the area.

I can't believe tomorrow is our last day already. While it seems like a while since I've been home, I'm also not ready to go back.

When you're on a longer trip like this, it almost feels like it becomes just daily habits and routines. I'm going to miss being able to walk around the resort or try new foods. I'm going to miss the smells and ambiance. I'm going to miss being with family 24/7 (yes, you heard me right).

I could stay here for a month and be happy.
