Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

I would like to serve in a trial that does not go beyond the conclusion of next Wed.'s court day.
Thurs. March 23rd is the first of only 5 After School Band Practices to prepare my students for their Spring Concert.
When I am absent from school there is never a substitute for me.
So....I hope the court will accept me and place me in a trial that is not expected to be a lengthy one.

Why don't they get a sub for you? Where do the students go when they are supposed to have your class?

Sometimes is we don't have enough subs we might have to cover for other teachers during our prep time. I've had to cover a range of classes even choir and band. For band there was usually a student leader who "guest" conducted.

There is no substitute teacher who knows how to play 6 instruments.
My 5th graders are "pulled" by me from their traditional classroom.
When I am absent ( which is very rare)..but when I'm absent... they just stay with their 5th grade classroom teacher instead of coming to the band room.
Thanks for asking :)

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
On a different subject @JenniferS , I was scrolling thru YouTube tonight and I found this....

His pronunciation of a few regions was amusing: Dufferin, Peterborough, and Norfolk are the ones I most readily recall.

And yes, I am one of the 26%.

He barely touched on it, but the reason the vast majority of Canadians live within 160 km (he said 100 miles) of the CAN/USA border is because most of Canada is inhospitable. Cold, remote, with land that is not arable. In fact, only 4.3% of the country’s land mass is arable. Up north, you have black flies as big as bats, bears as big as buses, and an untold wealth of natural resources that is the envy of the world.

I have a video about the War of 1812 if he’s interested. 😂😂

Tomorrow I don't have to go to school due to my opportunity to be screened for potential jury duty.
I go on a link at 8am and wait in a virtual waiting room as the court takes attendance.
Then I go on another link at 9am as the court listens to people say they would like to serve or they would like to request to be excused.
Those who are willing to serve I believe will then be asked to arrive in person by 1pm?
That's where the final jurors will be selected.
I'm looking forward to it.
I have to call on the 19th and 20th to see if my number was drawn

You may have a problem there. I have been called up for jury duty three times and it is the luck of the draw. Unless it has changed, you go there (or on computer) and they call roll, draw names from the group that is there and if you are picked then the lawyers will ask every one of those picked, questions about things related to the case and during that time you are told how long it is expected to last and if it doesn't fit you can then ask to be passed over for whatever reason you have. Sometimes they will ask before the group selection. It depends on the specific court, (i.e. family, state, federal, etc.) If you have that event they very well might pass you by, but I don't think they can completely guarantee the length of the trial.

Adding to your thoughts above to Steve--

(Note: In my state, prior to the date you're supposed to show up, the system allows you to "reschedule" your date online or via mail -- BUT, there is no provision for cancelling out serving completely, during that year.)

From my experience, it all comes down to the individual judge. The few times down through the years, when my date to appear was called, (every prospective juror had to appear in person -- but that was also years prior to covid social distancing), the large group of (prospective jurors) appeared in the room. Then, they were addressed by the judge. The ones I saw were bulldogs. Basically they made it crystal clear that they didn't want to hear excuses for why people could not serve,. The excuse had to be extreme for them to grant dismissal. (I only knew of one person who got out of it -- because she was the head nurse of a critical care unit at a hospital, and they were short staffed with nurses.)

The trial is expected to go slightly beyond my first after school band practice on March 23rd. For that reason I asked to be excused. My request was denied. I will remain in the potential jury pool for now.
The judge is also overseeing another trial...so we approx 50 residents who either 1)wanted to serve or 2) had their request to be excused denied...we are directed to report to the courthouse Tues. @ 9am.
There the approx. 50 potential jurors will be narrowed down to 12 jurors and 2 alternates.
I am hoping that I am not chosen because I expected to serve this week...not next week and beyond.

Good luck!! I hope you don't get picked! Wow, that sounds weird to say.

@JenniferS , are you having an Irish meal today? I bought a small ( 1 1/2 pds.) package of corned beef, and all I have to do is cook it in water and add a seasoning packet (included in package). There's potatoes and carrots, too. (Our Cardinal gave dispensation for the Lenten, no meat on Friday rule, because St. Patrick's Day falls on a Friday this year during Lent. ) MA has a big Irish community.

My wife was half Irish making my daughters one quarter Irish and me, the only one with no Irish heritage at all, was the only one to wear green on St. Patty's Day. I hadn't thought about it much until this morning when going through my wardrobe noticed that I have nothing, including socks and underwear that is green. I did find a piece of cheese in the fridge that had some mold on it, does that count. Oh, and also the lawn is green too.

Mike is the Irish one. The married part of my hyphenated last name is very Irish. The maiden part (S) is very Ukrainian … although Polish people often try to tell me it’s also Polish. Shrug.

Anyway, we have barbecued three days running, and are swimming in leftovers. Today’s meal will be clean out the fridge day. Steak, ribs, roasted chicken.

Enjoy your corned beef though. I love that stuff!
