I feel like most summer school around here is not academic. It's "enrichment", also known as "free daycare". We go 8-11, with a different class each hour. So I have a STEM class, Doodles & Drawings, and Nature Explorations. In STEM they built houses out of different blocks. We watched a directed drawing on how to draw Mr. Incredible for Doodles & Drawings. And then we did a scavenger hunt on the playground for the nature class. Is it more challenging to keep the attention of the students during the summer, when they might prefer to just be out playing with their pals? (I always felt sad for kids that had to go to summer school, because they were falling behind during the year.) Does the school system maybe do a few fun things for the kids (and teachers as well), like maybe an ice cream break one afternoon, or whatever?
