Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

It’s raining. Hard.

Might be a nice quiet day at work. Only a “real buyer” would venture out in this downpour.

So it looks like today was supposed to have been a DHS day. Would it have been our first time on MMRR? Would we have scored a virtual queue pass for RotR? Would I have mopped the floor with Mike on Midway Mania? I guess we’ll never know.

What we do know is that I would have had a milkshake.

@MinnieM123 they announced yesterday the massive changes to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade this year - it will be televised only and the balloons are going to only travel one city block:

From the article:

The number of participants, including performers and workers, is being cut to around 25 percent, Macy’s said.

There will still be the event’s famous massive balloons — although watching their popular inflation on the Upper West Side is a no-go this year.

And forget the balloons’ handlers — Macy’s instead will rely on specially rigged vehicles to anchor them.

No one under 18 will be allowed to participate in the parade, nor will there any performances by high-school and college marching bands. Only “locally based professional marching and musical ensembles’’ will perform, the retailer said. The school bands that were supposed to perform will be allowed to participate in next year’s parade, Macy’s said.

Footage of the event will air nationally on NBC-TV on Thanksgiving Day from 9 a.m. to noon, Macy’s said.

Never watched it anyway. Parades bore me! My inner child passed away years before I did! But, then again... I never liked parades or going to a circus. I think the circus one came from the fact that my dad was in the service when the circus fire in Hartford happened in 1944. He was on the detail to find the bodies and he used to describe the scene in detail when I was small. He wasn't telling me, but I heard and retained that verbal picture. I have no idea about what got in the way of my enjoying a parade.

He also was an airplane mechanic training there in Hartford (or the area). Because of that he never rode in an airplane in his life. His favorite saying was "I know what can go wrong with them". I faced that fear in my first year in College (1967) when they offered, for credit, a two week guided tour of a number of countries in Europe. It was easier to realize that airplane technology advanced a lot since 1944, so I could just say to myself that it is much safer now. My mother never was in an airplane until after my Father passed away. She was 78 years old and we all flew to Colorado Springs for my daughters graduation. I've had many miles of airline travel since that first one.

I like night time parades because of all the synchronized lights. Day time parades, not so much.

I haven’t been to a circus in almost 20 years. My stance and society’s stance regarding live animals has changed, so I think the current experience would be very blah.

And I am probably the only person here who finds Cirque du Soleil B-O-R-I-N-G. 😲 Just not my cup of tea. My parents were huge fans and were hooked after seeing La Nouba in 2006. They saw multiple shows in Vegas and elsewhere.

Boring and a wee bit creepy actually. Double 😲, I know

Well, I'm glad at least they're still having it -- even a lighter version of the parade is better than none.

What I can't figure out is why it will take them 4 hours to show the event on TV, when, for example, the balloons are only going one block, tethered to trucks. I mean even the walking "handlers" for the balloons won't be there -- and that fact alone, would speed up the balloons down the one block only, of the street. What also stood out was the 75% drop in the employees who would usually work in the parade.

Although I'd prefer to see many different marching bands from across the country, I'm glad that they're still allowing some (local) marching bands in the parade.

Well, this year's parade will be something to see, that's for sure. Again, something is better than nothing.

While I'm in person, this rings very true. I had a kid tell me a story yesterday about how he got sad while cleaning his room, so his mom came in to snuggle with him. Or at least that's the relevant information he should have shared. What he really shared was that he got sad while cleaning, so his mom came in... he thinks she was in the bathroom... she was taking a poop... and then came in and snuggled with him.
