Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

We start next week on Tuesday with a four day week. Then we have a four day week after that. Next is a Friday off in October, then Real Thanksgiving, then winter break. After winter break it's a long, cold, dark, dreary span of time until spring break.

We had inservice this past week including one day that was from 12-8 with individual appointments for 7th grade and new student orientation. Which I kind of liked, it was the first year we did it, but it made it more personal for the student, family, and us. Anyway, Monday is an inservice day and the kiddos come on Tuesday. Our calendar committee did something a little different this year since it is not our Spring Break year, they gave us one long weekend at the end of February, a longer Easter break and a weird April 30th (on Friday) off.

Veteran staff had inservice on Wednesday and Thursday this past week, and then we are not contracted again until Tuesday when the kids come back. But of course we are going to be working the other days. I spent yesterday working on my first week lesson plans, and Monday I'm going in to meet with my team and prep for the first week.

Normally we have a week off for spring break, then Good Friday and Easter Monday off whenever Easter falls. But this year, Easter falls early in April, so our spring break is the last week of March through Easter Monday.

Ugh....Feel free to skip this rant: rude people bother me! We went to KFC to get take out for dinner. E and I got in line outside, because they restrict the number of people inside. So you have to wait outside until someone leaves, and then they will let someone else in. There was a line of like....6 or seven groups waiting to get in to order, and this woman and her family come up behind us and get in line. They were not quite a meter and a half away, but we were far enough back in line that there were no more of the markers to show the distance, and I thought maybe they just weren't good at judging the distance. I figured once we got to the part of the line with the stickers, they'd be better. Well, first the woman just decides they don't want to wait and tries to cut in front of the line and says "Oh, it's ok. We're not eating here, we're getting ours to go." So I said "We are too." And there were more people in line who were getting food to go. The line is not to eat, it's to get in to order! So she grudgingly gets back in line behind us, but she's like 2 feet away, and by this time, we're up to the markers. So I pointed the marker out to her and asked her politely to please stay on that marker and she tells me not to be a drama queen, and people walk by you in stores and such, and it's not any different, bla bla bla. Well, yes, it IS different when you're standing in a line for 15 minutes and someone is right next to you....I wouldn't like people being that close even if there WASN'T a pandemic. Well, obviously she wasn't going to back off. We get up to the front of the line and suddenly the woman is RIGHT in back of me, like....almost touching me, she's so close. I said something under my breath like "Geez woman, give me some breathing room!" not loud enough for her to hear me, but the guy taking contact info at the door must have, because he stepped out to ask people in the line to please make sure they were keeping their distance. Or maybe he just noticed that she was practically crawling up my rear end, and of course if police come and notice people not distancing, it's the restaurant that gets a fine. The woman rolled her eyes, but stepped back a couple of feet. I just don't understand that....I wasn't rude, and I didn't think it was an unreasonable request. Maybe she doesn't care about her own health, but I'm in a high risk group, and you can see that I have diabetis by looking at me....you don't know who has a compromised immune system, or who has COPD, etc. And even if there wasn't a pandemic, if someone tells you they are uncomfortable with how close you are standing, MOVE! Would you like it if I was breathing down YOUR neck? When there's a ton of space, the only reason I can think of to stand so close to another person is that you want to steal their wallet, so you getting close to me makes me nervous!

Rant over, sorry.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Public Service Announcement time.

If you have to wear a mask for 5-6 hours straight, you will probably need a breath mint.

PSA #1 - You cannot get the breath mint through your mask. No matter how many times you try.

PSA #2 - You should not suck the breath mint whilst wearing your mask, as the vapours tend to seep out the top of the mask and burn your eyes.

PSA #3 - Masks suck. Yet I happily wear mine. Period.

Is this all from personal experience? Not that I disagree with the use of breathmints, but why would the mask make one necessary any more than non-mask breathing? I breathe through my nose whether I am wearing a mask or not. My husband breathes through his mouth when not wearing a mask, so I'm assuming it's the same when he IS wearing a mask. I wouldn't think it would make much of a difference. Breath mints are a good idea, regardless. But I have never worn a mask while sucking on a breathmint.

Love this guy. It must be rough living next to us. However, there was a time in the 60's and 70's when I lived close to the Canadian Border (Quebec specifically) when it was getting pretty scary. Post boxes being blown up, politician kidnapped and killed, and a general hatred for anyone speaking english. Canadians or anyone! Parti Québécois!

@JenniferS , thought I'd share an interesting article about land-based learning, offered by some indigenous people in Canada. If I was a school-aged kid, I'd love to learn these outdoor skills. :) (There's even natural medicine picking, from various plants, etc. - I think that would be a fascinating to learn.) Their outside program has become popular during the pandemic.

My youngest son has been dating a First Nations girl for almost 7 years. She is very into her indigenous heritage right now. It’s very interesting.

They still don’t like RoC that much. 🙁

It’s not so much the breathing out of your mouth, it’s the speaking. That’s all I do at work is talk.

That is about to be me tomorrow... let's see how that goes. I've been wearing one more lately now that I've been back in the building, but I haven't had to talk to kids until tomorrow. I'll be taking 2 or 3 since I know they can get damp.
