Sunday's high is 60. 😍

But it is also supposed to be super windy, so it won't feel like 60. But like I've been saying. I'll take it!

We did have snow on Tuesday morning. Enough to make roads pretty bad on my commute. But it all melted by the time I got out of school.

Auntie was gifted a Princess cruise for her 75th birthday in September. She and her daughter were supposed to fly to NYC on March 15th, sailing on the 16th.

Out of an abundance of caution, my cousin has decided that they’re not going. Unless Princess actually cancels the cruise, they are going to be out about $5000 altogether.

More than that though, Auntie knows that this would have probably been her last cruise. She has basically been in self-isolation since the beginning of the year to ensure she doesn’t get the flu again this season.

No church. No gym. No trips to the mall. And now, no cruise. ‘Twas all for naught. 🙁

I think it’s the the right call. It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better and there are something like 4,000 people on self-quarantine in the city right now. We were going to go on a cruise this summer for my daughter’s 16th birthday. She follows the news. She said she does NOT want to risk being quarantined on a boat that isn’t allowed to dock.

You know better than anyone that the flu she caught before Christmas nearly killed her.

I commiserated as best I could, but I told her that if she contracted COVID-19, she wouldn’t have to worry about a 14 day quarantine; she’d be the first to be taken off the ship in a body bag.

I then invited her over for dinner, but she wants to wallow a little longer. No sense wasting steak, baked potatoes, and Caesar salad on her. (Her words, not mine.) 😢

Woo hoo, Norwegian hopped on board with the other cruise lines, and offered a travel credit, which is good until (I forgot the exact date) 2022.

They’re still maybe out for the airfare to NYC, and definitely out the hotel room for one night.

All in all, not bad. Auntie is back on top of the world ... hoping for a summer cruise. Even better, flu season is over/not yet started in the summer.

So with the Coronavirus scare, why are people hoarding toilet paper? Apparently people are flocking to the stores for toilet paper and hand sanitize and most shelves are empty....
I had that same discussion just yesterday with a friend. It is the same thing that applies down here in the south, if they are forecasting a half inch of snow the bread and milk shelves are emptied in anticipation of being house bound for decades. That reason is because a lot of people are either stupid or by coincidence they all ran out of toilet paper at the same time. I am really leaning toward the first one and blaming our "leaders" for letting our educational system fail so badly. Let's face it we have a whole lot of the walking brain dead wandering about. At least the hand sanitizer can be rationalized to some extent. Another possibility we were able to feel might be possible is that people think that the coronavirus causes diarrhea. 😷

I read a few posts beyond this, and saw that they will be getting a voucher to reschedule a future cruise. That's excellent news.

As for your elderly aunt cancelling her cruise, it makes sense to do so.

Daily, I've been keeping up with the CDC recommendations down here in the States, and one of the physicians was recommending that people with medical issues and many seniors (even some in good health), may want to avoid large gatherings with the general public, particularly travel, if not absolutely necessary. This is just temporary, until more is learned about the global virus, and things get under better control.
