That I can totally agree with. It can get unbearably hot no matter where one lives, but, in climates that are usually cooler, AC is not really seriously considered or at least not efficient enough to make it pleasant. I don't think any of us would have moved down here before the invention of central AC. We have two months of bearable cold weather. Middle December through middle February when our heat pumps do the trick of keeping us warm. Without central air, I would be just a big puddle of melted grease by now. So, even though it is a steady 71 degrees in my apartment I do feel sorry for those without that luxury. My daughter and her family are currently visiting Vermont to attend a wedding. The places they are staying have only a couple of window AC's and even though it is cooler there I'll bet that they are going to be complaining upon their return. Hopefully all can be comfortable soon. I do know what it feels like, I just feel happy about this artificial cooling device.
Yeah, my mom's whole family is from Illinois and my aunt had a winter home in Florida. They'd spend the coldest part of the year in Florida where it wasn't so frigid, and then head back to Illinois in the spring when it started to warm up again. They had central air in their Illinois home...I never went to the one in Florida. I miss having air conditioning!!
I DO remember visiting my mom's aunt and uncle in Florida, and it was so hot, but they were elderly and I guess they couldn't handle cold at all because we were visiting in the summer...June or July, so it would have been hot. I know we went swimming a lot, but my mom said every time she would open a window, her aunt would go and close it because she was cold. In Florida. In the SUMMER. I don't even understand how that's possible and I'm a freezebug!

Reminds me of a childhood memory. Background... were she alive she would have been 100 years old this October. Her life was entranced in old wives tales and rural interpretations. She was a city girl, but, my Dad lived on a farm for a large portion of his youth. Anyway, whenever we would pass by a pasture and the cows were lying down (not feet up) she would always, always prompt my Dad with they question... Why do cows lay down? She would be searching for confirmation that what she had heard (herd, get it) was that it meant that there was a storm heading in. My father would always answer with... Because they are tired of standing! Sorry, just a little ancient humor that I thought I might share.
Huh, my mom always said you could tell when a storm was coming and from which direction, because the cows would all group together for warmth with their rears towards the oncoming storm. Bison, on the other hand, FACE the storm head on. So if you see them all huddled together (not at feed time) all facing one direction, you know a storm is coming.

Just got back from a week at Woodloch Pines resort in Pennsylvania. It’s a lakeside resort with all sorts of activities like go-karts, batting cages, kayaks, pedal boats, paddle boards, water skiing, rock climbing wall, synthetic ice rink, indoor pools, outdoor pools, waterslides, bingo, trivia, evening shows, etc. We were there for the week with 2 other families and a fourth family joined our house on Wednesday. Then 4 other families joined in 2 other houses on Wednesday. There were 36 of us all together and each age group of kids had about 6 of them traveling as a pack. The kids had their freedom to roam, the parents had their time to relax and we only used our phones to find each other. It was good old fashioned family fun. Everyone got along, everyone helped out, everyone cleaned up. You would think traveling with that many people would be a nightmare but that’s what made it amazing.
I'm so glad to hear that! We're doing a massive Disney trip next summer with 24 of us. My family, my brother's family plus his in-laws, one of my cousins and his kids and their families. I just found out last week that my cousins tribe is in, so I'm just hoping we can all get along. We did South Dakota in 2016 with the same cousin and one of his kids and her daughter, and my brother's family minus his in-laws, and we had a great time. But this will be about twice the number of people and it will be a whole week all together rather than a few days. Good to know it IS possible to enjoy a trip with a large group!!

I’d bet money this method is more accurate than modern technology.

The trick was we didn’t do EVERYTHING together and we were constantly switching up the subgroups.

Yeah, we definitely won't be able to do EVERYTHING together. My cousins are staying off-property and the rest of us will be at Caribbean Beach, so we'll be able to make FP+ reservations 60 days out where my cousins won't, and there are more of them than there are of us, so the chances that they will get FPs for things like 7dmt or FOP are slim to none. And ADRs...no way we can make ADRS for 24 people. So we'll have to pick and choose what we do together. But the nice thing is that we aren't all going to be into the same things, so if one person says "I want to do ToT!" which my son and I won't do, anyone who wants to do ToT can go with that person, and I can take DS to do something else, and anyone who wants to join can do that. We'll just split into interest groups and do the things we want to do and meet up later. And hopefully we can get some ADRs for the same times so we are there together, if not sitting all together. We'll just see how it works out.

I just saw this story on the news.
So far, in the first week 10,000 people have visited this free exhibit.

Dumbo is expected to fetch up to $200K CAD. Can you say “Gofundme”?

Even better ... I know someone who has a birthday just around the corner.

Saw that the other day. What really impressed me was that he was willing to sell off his memorabilia, to help raise money for children with special needs.
