Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

No plows up here. The fear is - if they scrape all that ice, freezing rain, and ice pellets, it will just clog up the catch basins. Heavy rain warnings have been issued for the next 48 hrs, and the last thing you want is a bunch of clogged catch basins.

Plus, the contracts all expired 4/1, and most contractors have removed their blades. 🙄
So, does no one know how to put them back on or does public safety mean nothing to Cananadians? I'm having a little problem with the clogged catch basins scenario as well. Clearing the existing ice out of the way intuitively would help not clog the basins. ;)

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

Private contractors have switched into landscaping mode. Many city contractors are seasonal. They’ve moved on to their summer jobs.

To be fair - Canada or not, we do not usually encounter significant ice/snow accumulation in April, hence the 3/31 expiry date on snow clearing contracts.

The catch basins are all at the very edge of the roadway next to the curb. Plowing all of the snow from the middle of the roadway to the edges most definitely results in stopped up catch basins. It is then incumbent on the homeowner to clear the ice (not easy once the slush freezes solid overnight) from said basins. I’ve seen Mike and Angelo literally take a crowbar to break up the ice before.

Catch basins are located every five or six house widths apart.

Leaves are also responsible for clogging up the basins in the fall. Each season is fraught with perils, I tell ya!

OK, but since they can't landscape under ice, they might have jumped at the chance to enhance their wallets and put the plows back on. My recollection is it takes less then a half hour for the largest one they can find. I'll give you the ice in the basins thing though. I guess you just have to be tough to live in Cananada, eh!:)
