Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Just got back home from a late night of curling. Throwing the right weight is definitely the hardest part. I'm definitely getting better at it though.

I love your updates. Who would have thought that curling could also be a late Saturday night sport, too? Surprisingly, I never thought about the weight of those stones. When I've seen curling on TV, the people seemed to just throw those effortlessly, and it never dawned on me that they were heavy. (I'm a curling newbie, so please bear with me! ;) )

We spotted an osprey nest on our way out of the second park, and then another just down the road from that:

full

Think he's perched up there in anticipation. (Perhaps he thinks that this is a new pole for a gondola line in RI?) :p

So apparently yesterday's weather decided not to stay. Rain, sleet, snow? in the forecast today - lousy weather for the marathon tomorrow.

Yah, I hope it won't be too wet for the runners--that race is grueling enough even in good weather.

I'm glad you mentioned the marathon, though--I just checked the public transit web site (I'm going to work tomorrow), and thank goodness they're not running a reduced schedule for the holiday (it's also Patriots Day--in MA, but generally speaking, mostly a holiday for Suffolk County--some gov't. offices and schools only).

Our son-in-law used to work right in downtown Boston, but had the option of working from home on Patriots Day. The day of the bombing he had to go in to the office, and actually saw the second bomb go off from his office window.

They are heavy if you try to pick them up, but in curling weight refers to how much force you give the stone during delivery. It's hard getting the right weight. If you give the stone too much weight it will go right through the house. If you don't give the stone enough weight it won't go as far as you want it to. Last night I managed, for the first time, to get a few to go about right where I wanted them.

Sorry to hear that your son-in-law witnessed that from his office window. I was at work that day and my boss was a spectator near the finish line. Called me and others in a panic to prepare--and the hospital sprang into action.

On a related note, didn't Patriots Day used to be April 19, no matter what day of the week?

I get confused about the various dates myself--partly because I only worked for one company (years ago) that gave us Patriots Day off. Even then, it was only because I was working in an office tower 2 blocks from the finish line and the whole area was basically blocked off. There are other lesser known (county) holidays like this, too, in the spring/early summer--such as Bunker Hill Day and Evacuation Day.

Whoever said snow was allowed past spring break is wrong. I just went to gas up my car for the week. It's 28 degrees, light snow, and ice from yesterday. Supposed to get some more tonight, then it looks like more consistent 50-60 degree weather. But it looked that way a week ago, too.

On a side note, I am in a huge Disney mood today. I've been laying in bed watching WDW vacation vlogs from different families today. i always like the arrival videos, because that's one of my favorite parts of the trip. After a 21 hour drive, arriving at your resort is a wonderful feeling.

Be glad you’re not further north! Our friends have been posting pictures of the blizzard - the amount of snow that has fallen is insane. Everything was shutdown yesterday and today. The plows gave up trying to keep the roads open and they’re supposed to get hit again on Tuesday...

Yep, we have been in the blizzard area since yesterday. I've seen plows going around though.

It’s a little earlier than I would usually book flights, but when I checked last week, there was NOTHING with decent times and/or affordable.

Keeping in mind, they may add a bunch of flights between now and then, but as it stands now, our best odds are out of Detroit. I HATE driving to Detroit. Said to Mike, if we’re driving to Detroit, might as well hop on the I-75 and keep going.

Since then, we’ve been kind of warming up to the idea of driving. We had a lovely drive down to Spring Training last year.

Time will tell.

No plows up here. The fear is - if they scrape all that ice, freezing rain, and ice pellets, it will just clog up the catch basins. Heavy rain warnings have been issued for the next 48 hrs, and the last thing you want is a bunch of clogged catch basins.

Plus, the contracts all expired 4/1, and most contractors have removed their blades. 🙄
