Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Proud of the people of my state this week. Really working hard to help and take care of one another. People giving what they can and risking their own lives to assist. Not surprising to me as I see this almost everyday but probably not as obvious to those outside.

People in my state have been making many donations as well. Gotta say that we're one nation--we're all neighbors regardless of state borders--and we all take care of each other.

Despite the fact we still have several days left before we even leave the month of August, I felt it necessary to put out my annual haystack a la pumpkin to welcome the coming of Fall to my humble apartment. Meet my roommates, Jack (above) and Jack Jr. (below).

And to top off the Fall / Halloween decor, I decided to pull out my trifecta of favorite Fall / Halloween-time movies to be watched over the next couple months.

:joyfull: I was thinking of watching Halloween movies today. (not a fan of slasher gore though) It's my favorite holiday. I like Christmas but love Halloween.

Christmas is the best holiday ever. I love the lights and decorations and giving gifts and the entire ambiance. But I need to watch more Christmas movies this year, which I know will be a problem because this will be be busiest Christmas season I've ever had. Those darn real jobs getting in the way. :grumpy:

I never really liked the Adventures of Ichabod...it always totally creeped me out. I have yet to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas...I can't do scary movies and I have no idea how scary it is, but Nightmare in the title is never a good sign.

The Good Earth.....great book!!

I was thinking about this today, and I came to the conclusion that retro revenge can be quite satisfying. You go girl !! :D

Reminds me of a time that I ran into a few people in a mall, (they were students I knew back in high school -- this was about 15 years post-graduation, at the time). One of the women I despised back in school (she was really clique-y and stuck up).

Also, she really "let herself go" and looked twice her age that day. Meanwhile, one of the guys in the group immediately came over to me, had a big smile, and said, "Well, some people look even better now, than they did back in school. You look gorgeous!" I said thank you, and then looked over (with a smug smile) at clique woman. She walked away. :hilarious: I kinda felt like this:

You know, I'm never going to win a beauty contest, so it's not so much the way most of the popular crowd has "let themselves go" for me, but the fact that they are still stuck in our hometown with no education and never getting to leave the state much less the country, and here I am, happily married (most of them are divorced) and living in Europe, and I have a college degree. Living well is revenge enough for me...I'm happy and they mostly aren't. For all their snooty derision of me because I was a "goody goody" and got good grades and was "ugly"...well, at least I have what I always wanted in life.

When I went to one of my high school reunions (never again!), it seemed that the majority of the "cool" girls still thought they were cooler than the rest of us peasants, and the guys who were jerks back in high school were still jerks. I sat there thinking how I didn't like those kids back in high school, so why was I wasting my time catching up with them now! social media has made it so much easier to keep in touch with people now, so maybe high school reunions will join the dinosaurs eventuallly.

I have missed both my high school reunions. I was actually thrilled to have an excuse not to go other than just "I don't really want to see you jerks!" I had the title role in an opera at the time (just a community production) and we had rehearsals I couldn't miss...plus, you know, living on a different continent and airfare being insanely expensive. The 2nd one was just a couple of years ago, but our kids were not out of school yet for the Summer, and you get heavy fines and sanctions if your kids are not in school when they are supposed to be. So darn it, I had to miss it again. So um...gla...I mean sad.

Mike is still friends with everyone from high school because of his coaching. He sees the guys often and goes out for beers after games.

Me, I don't socialize with anybody from high school. I'm FB friends with a bunch of grade school and high school friends, but that's the extent of it. I was neither popular nor unpopular in high school - I just kind of marched to the beat of my own drum.

Compared to my high school friends, looks-wise, I am still somewhere in the middle of the pack. Career-wise, I've had great success with the same company for more than 28 years; but I never seem to be working lately. Our home is probably "less" than everyone else's, but our debt level is negligible. Our cars are nice, but not flashy. My marriage is the one thing I'm most proud of. I genuinely love and like my husband, and he adores me. This is offset by our kids both being bums. I've felt terrible the past two years as friend after friend has posted pictures of their kids graduating university. (You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink ... no matter how big the carrot or the stick.)

If I were to attend a high school reunion 32 years after graduation, I wouldn't be centre stage, but I wouldn't be hiding out in a corner either. I would however, be the most boring, sober one there; but I'm used to that. :joyfull:
