Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Random trip thoughts:

Air conditioning has been cranking in all 4 parks. DHS is a barren wasteland with no shade and no water to cool you off. At least EPCOT has those misting things and water play pads you can walk through. DHS needs something.

There's definitely something wrong with the system when a crowd is waiting for a bus and a scooter rolls up at the last second and gets loaded first with 8 family members and small children that were waiting on line end up having to stand.

I was surprised they gave away really good candy at the Halloween party. I was expecting garbage I wouldn't want to eat. That was not the case.

NRJ is not worth wasting a FP on. I will never make that mistake again. From now on - 2 days at AK, 2 FP for FoP. That was one fun ride. I'll ride NRJ when the wait is 15 minutes standby. If that point never comes, I'll be OK with that.

I enjoyed the new Soarin' movie. It was fun to have a different experience. I wish they kept the old music but it was still a nice ride. I did not like the new Mission Space green movie. Maybe orange is better but my son wanted green so I guess I'll find out some other time.

That's all I can think of for now.

Very happy that you had such a fun vacation!! You deserve a nice break, and now you have memories that you and your family can share for many years to come. Thank you for all your thoughts--I love reading other people's perspectives. It's always food for thought . . .

I've seen M:S Green online. It looks fun. I doubt Mike and I will ever do Orange again. He says his head is still messed up from a decade ago.

If Soarin' 2.0 were playing on two screens, and the original on one screen, I would watch the original 4 out of 5 times. Maybe even 9 out of 10.

Thanks for the heads up about NRJ. We've got two FP's for FoP. We'll do standby for the boat ride. Pretty sure we won't luck out with just a 15 minute wait though. Not even during the two slowest weeks of the year.

I agree about the last minute scooters. There's got to be a solution there, but I don't know what it is, aside from a rental car. I'm not a feminist - no able bodied man should sit while women and children stand. Period. My boys wouldn't dream of it. Likewise, I will cede my seat to any person travelling with wee ones, or anyone who looks like they need a seat, irrespective of age or gender.

How was the food? I know people complain that DDP killed the food quality, but Mike says he hasn't had a bad meal ever. I'm waaaaay more picky than him, and I have to agree; most of it is pretty darn good.

Thanks for taking us along and sharing your thoughts and pictures. <3
My main issue with the scooter/bus thing is they ALL immediately go to the front of the line, no matter how long people have been waiting or how many are in the party. The other night we had a long line waiting for the bus, probably around a packed bus worth, for around 25 minutes. A family came up with 2 scooters and a wheelchair just as the bus arrived and they were loaded first, along with the other 5 or so people in their party. There were many people who had been waiting that did not make it on the bus. There's got to be a way to que people so it's based on arrival.

The food was good but I booked too many buffets. Crystal Palace, Hoop dee Doo and Cape May were the first 3 nights. Then we got menus for Yak & Yeti, Homecomin' and The Brown Derby. Last night was family style at Liberty Tree Tavern. The kids do well at the buffets but I make myself overly full and feel awful for hours.

I know your pain it does seem unfair. But the reason for loading scooters/wheelchairs first is to take advantage of an empty or partially empty bus to give the driver working room and cut down on the chances of harming other guest. The ADA rules do not dictate preferential treatment as they did in the past. Of course none of this addresses your post that scooter people should wait till it's their turn and not cut the line sorta speak. And unless the driver actually sees it they have no way of knowing how long they have been there. I mentioned this in another thread regarding "zooming". When a scooter "zooms" by everyone during active loading and they expect everything to stop just for them. I have had this happen to me, we are not expected to drop everything for them. However as a courtesy we will tell dispatch there is a guest with a scooter left behind and a bus is needed. Not sure how they could resolve this but the crux is needing the room on the bus to load.

Hoop Dee Doo isn't really a buffet is it? It's just family style whatever they want to give you. Seems like that is the opposite of a buffet... not choice of entree at all. All you can do is decide what you don't want from the limited amount they put on the table.

That's an interesting read - I guess it's next to impossible to time stamp their arrival when they do need to load first.

It's not, and neither is Liberty Tree Tavern, but when food is placed in front of me and it just keeps coming I have issues knowing when to stop eating. Especially if it's fried chicken and ribs. I am a pretty clean eater normally and I exercise daily. I do none of that when I'm on vacation and my body feels the difference.

You have apparently not read the manual. Vacations are automatically exempt from calories or even the presence of anything that is bad for you. Enjoy! No one is promised a tomorrow. I spent two weeks on a cruise ship a couple of years ago on a trans-Atlantic cruise and actually lost 5 pounds. Vacations work in mysterious ways!

Oh trust me - I'm enjoying!! My body just isn't used to being bombarded with fried and decadent foods - I'm more of an "in moderation" eater but that went out the window 3 weeks ago when we went to Woodloch for a week, then we were home a week and I recovered slightly and now we are here! It's a whole lotta enjoying!!

Good morning! We're here on our final voyage to Long Island. Probably heading to MD tomorrow if packing goes OK today. Ex-landlady still continues to give DS and family a hard time but fortunately the liaison lady from the bank is on their side. I'll be happy when they're finally out of here!
Gotta love history!! :joyfull: In particular, this small-town stuff is the most fascinating.

As a side note here, do you know that my father used to do the same thing--read all kinds of plaques no matter where he went? As a family, we'd be walking down a sidewalk someplace, and all of a sudden, he'd stop: "Oh, I need to study this plaque over here." (Yes, he always said study--he was serious about the whole thing. ;) ) So, we'd all stop and as kids, we'd be like this . . . . . . but now, years later, I've grown into my father?!! :p
My dad was the same way. We drove cross-country a couple of times when I was a teenager and he would stop and read every roadside plaque. Drove us nuts! Now we do the same thing.

I like how they are making lines handicap accessible now so people in scooters and wheelchairs and still wait in the standby lines. I believe FoP is all accessible on scooters in the normal lines. They could easily make lines for buses accessible to everyone so that it's based on time of arrival.
