Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

Tikiman's FB page is reporting that they changed the Tonga Toast recipe at Kona, and people are sending it back. Everyone of course, is blaming the dining plan.

Insert sad face ... :(

I tried, but I couldn't give this a "like" . . . even though I appreciated the (dreadful) update.

Let's just recap the changes at the Polynesian from the past year:

1. Destruction of the most gorgeous hotel lobby into a "meh" lobby.
2. Addition of 20 view-destroying (for many hotel rooms) bungalows for the !% crowd.
3. Messing with perfection (Tonga Toast) by cheaping out on the recipe--a tried and true recipe, that brings in people who specifically go to breakfast there FOR the Tonga Toast.

This is all a TRAVESTY!!!

For those of you who cannot live without your (authentic recipe) Tonga Toast, I found the official recipe online that you can make at home:

2 or 4 slices of Sourdough bread (important: slice thickness is between 1 to 1 1/2 inches)
1 (or 2) bananas (2 if using 4 slices of bread)
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup milk
oil for frying
soft, tub butter and/or syrup

Cut 1-inch "pocket" in one side of bread. Cut banana(s) in half, and then cut each half lengthwise. Put 2 pieces in each pocket.

Mix sugar and cinnamon in small bowl, set aside.
In another bowl, mix milk, vanilla and egg.
Heat 4 inches of oil in pan to 350 degrees.
Dip bread into milk/egg mixture for a few seconds to coat.
Fry bread on both sides in hot oil to lightly browned -- about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels or wire rack.
Sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar.

The first was the best.
The second was good, but the hanging plot threads they left for the third weaken it when rewatching.
The third felt like they made it up as they went and it made no dang sense most of the time.
There was a fourth?

The special effects on Davy Jones and his crew make it cool to watch.

The Poly was my favorite resort. We've been going once or twice a year there for a while and, quite frankly, the last time we were there, there was no "magic". Not just at the resort, but anywhere in the World. With everything else being cut back or super-charged, I no longer feel a need to blow $10,000 on a Disney vacation - that was our all in cost when we took my Mom last December. We've eaten a lot of tuna or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to save up for those trips and now we'll have equally memorable trips at a fraction of the cost. Time to stop feeding the beast.... :(

I'm not there yet. Disney is still my happy place and my favourite vacation destination. I still find the magic everywhere because it starts inside of me. I turn into a whole different person the second I pass through those gates.

I am a very even keeled person, some would even say boring, but the two things that are guaranteed to get me animated are sharing my faith and indulging my love of all things WDW.

Did I prefer the old FastPass? You betcha! But rolling with the punches, I've made FP+ work for us. In fact, it's allowed more sleep-in mornings than ever before.

I plan carefully to avoid the busy parks on any given day, which means I often don't take advantage of EMH's anymore. Parks are too busy on Saturday? Then we'll go to DS, hop on a boat and go have a leisurely lunch at POFQ.

As a 100% commission based salesperson, I'm usually pretty self-motivated at work. On those rare down days though, when I just can't be bothered, I look at every person walking through my door as part of my next trip. You - you're my flights. You - you're my 10-day ParkHopper Passes. You - you're my upgrade to Coronado Springs instead of POP. Planning a Disney trip brings on my A-game every time!

I hope I don't ever lose this feeling.

I agree with you. Disney has been going through a lot of changes, some good and some bad. But frankly it is still my happy place, whether it is WDW or DL, I love them both and as long as I still feel a thrill and magic to going I'll go. I hope it lasts for a long time.

Or not. It was -5 this morning (23F to you).
A few flurries forecast for tomorrow.

We were in the 20's this morning too. I think we are up to 36 now. Oh well, as long as it gets warm by the time the school year is done that is all I really care about. I have more "winter" clothes to wear at work than summer/spring, so the cooler it is the less likely I am to buy new work clothes. I mean that money could go to Disney!

Listen, normally I would be at least a little sympathetic to whatever weather you are having up there in the frozen tundra, but, it appears that you have sent some of the cold Cananadian air down far enough that it is affecting me in North Carolina. Supposed to hit 27f tonight here. This has got to stop or we may just have to take some military action against you. Doing that to us is not polite, in fact, it is quite rude. :cold::in pain:

Oh, I hear you. For me, I'm a bit in the middle for my overall opinion. I still have a lot of fun there, but maybe the difference between your situation and mine, is that I only go once a year and don't go for long. Hence, I get in mostly everything I want to do (provided the major rides, etc., aren't broken down or under refurb), and don't pay too much attention to anything else going on while I'm there.

I think if I could afford more than 4 days/3 nights, I'd probably be more critical of the various cuts, etc. This is not to say that I don't notice "some" things even on my brief trip once a year, nor keep up with the "latest" that's reported on the WDW Magic Forum. But I think just having less time time in the parks is not such a bad thing after all. o_O :) Lastly, I don't spend much on food--no table service meals, no ADRs either.

We always do "Free" Dining. For Hubby, it's all about the meals. For him, the parks and rides and shows are just the "appetizer" before dinner.
