Finally finishing watching the TiVo of the Beatles celebration. I have been a Beatles fanatic for my entire life. I have every recording they ever made on 2 formats (vinyl and CD) and many of their material on tape as well. I also have quite a few Beatles cover records. When I was a child, we didn't go to church, but I wasn't allowed to watch TV, so I would get up at 7am on Sunday mornings and spend 3 hours listening to the Beatles.
So, for me, this show was important to watch.
Highlights: Jeff Lynne/Joe Walsh/Dhani Harrison doing Something. Dave Grohl/Jeff Lynne doing Hey Bulldog. Alicia Keys/John Legend doing Let it Be.
Lowlights: Maroon 5 - yikes! Eurythmics - I usually love her voice, but that did not work. Katy Perry - can't stand her voice and why was she wearing curtains? Joe Walsh being allowed to sing along side Gary Clark, Jr. Could've been a great version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, but Joe's voice just killed it.
The rest were pretty unmemorable for good or bad reasons for me. The David Letterman interview segments were pretty weak in my opinion.
The Ringo tunes were fun - he never could sing and has admitted so for many years, but he has a blast being a rock Starr. I've seen a couple concerts of Paul's band and they can certainly play. And, these kind of shows always end with the mass group on stage and for some reason I always buy into it!
Waiting for Dave Grohl to do a Beatles tribute tour. That could be quite enjoyable, the guy has got talent.
