Saw that on the news last night - unreal!!!
Years ago I remember driving out to Niagara during the kids Spring break (3rd week of April) and seeing huge ice floes on Lake Erie. You could see them from miles and miles away - just amazed us!

I also remember the year our bay (Narragansett Bay) froze over. Surprisingly I haven't heard any reports about that yet this year, and frankly it's too cold for me to drive the 2 or 3 minutes down there to check it out.
