Well thankfully it warmed up a smidge here, and much of the thick ice weighing down the trees melted today before the temps dropped again.

Luckily we never lost power, as did many homes in our city. Most outages here were brief; 4 - 8 hours, unlike Toronto, where there are still between 250,000 - 300,000 homes without hydro. No sooner do they restore power to some sections of the city, than trees fall over taking out more hydro lines in another section.
Experts don't expect power to be fully restored everywhere throughout the GTA until Saturday.
There are a lot of folks who won't be enjoying their Christmas dinner at home this year.
As of 6:00, when I last watched the news, there have been no storm related deaths; and the only injury was a 10 year old boy hit by a falling limb.

As to a white Christmas - there is still quite a bit on the ground, but roofs, roads and sidewalks were cleared by 24+ hours of rain/freezing drizzle.
Isnt it just easier to build all utilities underground than rebuild them every storm?

also.. its christmas eve!

prepare your gifts!!, do not fight with each other, just form a line.. you know you want to ;)

Wow, 7? That's a lot.

I'm the youngest of 2. I sometimes wish I had a bigger family, but then sometimes I'm glad to be by myself. :p
My great grandma had 16, 3 died shortly after birth. Of course they were from the hills and this was 1920s. Then my grandpa from that family had four--all boys. Then my parents, dad from that side of the family, had four--all girls. Funny how that works.

Good morning - Happy Christmas Eve. The rest of the family is still sleeping but I got up to make the brownies and pudding that I need for the Death by Chocolate tomorrow.
DS and his wife arrived around 3:30 this morning - they have to go back tomorrow afternoon, and DD will be here this afternoon, but not tomorrow. I wish we had more time together this year, but I truly am grateful for the time that we do have. Not everyone is that lucky.

I really cut back on how much dessert I made this year, just so I don't have leftovers here. Besides the Death by Chocolate I made a pumpkin cream-cheese roll, some 7 layer bars and English matrimonials. I suspect they'll all mostly disappear tomorrow.

I'm probably the only one on here old enough to remember "flannel boards" (pre-velcro days). I remember our Sunday school teacher having one and it was always a thrill if she picked you to place one of the characters on it, especially at Christmas because she had all the animals, and the shepherds and Wise Men besides the Holy Family and the angels, so just about everyone got a turn. We thought it was so cool that the flannel stuck to flannel. Now it's me....

It's also called a felt board.

I'm way too young to have any idea what you people are talking about. o_O
But, I may also possibly be delusional or having a senior moment...or both.

I've been avoiding one as well, but logic dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one. And, since I have family that loves me, I really should take care of my body, as it's the vessel I sail these turbulent seas of life in...so, better make sure the hull stays ship shape! :p

I've never really avoided Docs, was just always pretty healthy. But, in my early 30's I was diagnosed with a heart condition known as SVT (Google it ;)). I had been feeling "palpitations" for a few years, but they lasted for only a few seconds, so I just blew it off. Then one day at an office lunch it kicked in and didn't go away. I waited a half hour before I finally relented and quietly asked a coworker to take me to a hospital down the road. When I got there the nurse tried to take my pulse but said that it was so fast she couldn't count it. I was immediately taken back and when they hooked me up to an EKG it was 215 beats/min. They had to convert my heart rate with an IV of Adenosine. Funny thing is, they said it would keep getting worse over the years and I would probably need an operation...it has actually become way less frequent. And, I have meds that usually convert me if needed. The last time I had an event was over 4 years (knocks on wood - my head :D) ago. Unfortunately, that time, the meds (they had expired ) didn't do the job and I had to be transported. When the EMT found out I had flown this route before she told me... "Well, then ya know I can help ya' sweetie, but ya' also know I have to kill ya' for a few seconds first.*wink*" That would be the Adenosine. I replied... "I'm ready. Hit me." Weirdest feeling being flatlined like that.
Anyway, I go regularly these days. If possible, I'd like to see my GREAT grandchildren. ;) :)

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

Yeah, heart stuff isn"t fun. We spent 2 years hauling our then 15 year old son back and forth to Sick Kids. They finally ruled out non-sustained VT, and have settled on a diagnosis of minor heart anomaly due to a malformation on the lower left ventricle. He has had no episodes of syncope in 2 years, 2 acceptable holter monitor tests, and earlier this year, he was cleared to resume sports.
All turned out fine, thankfully, but he will have to monitored regularly for the rest of his life.
