So the gymnastics competition won't interfere with the plans we made. It actually fell right where we hoped it would. And we are also arriving about half a day earlier, so we have a full day at the beginning instead of a half day. We made a breakfast reservation for Trail's End Buffet at Fort Wilderness that morning. I'm so excited! :D

There was a tornado that touched down not even an hour from where I live last night. Destroyed some homes, and turned over a bunch of trailers and campers at a campground. Thankfully no one was killed or severely injured.

Had a tornado touchdown about 30 minutes southwest of here a few hours ago. Don't believe it was much, but it really makes it seem like they could hit closer to home. Had a tornado warning that expired at 3:15 today and are under a watch until 7:00 tonight.

There's a cellar under our front porch that we would go in if there was an actual tornado. Whenever there's severe weather that is truly worrisome, I just go down to the basement. It's an exposed basement so I can see what's happening outside and make a judgement on whether I should take further shelter.

I've never had to actually take "real" shelter. We have tornado watches here all the time during spring and summer. This year has been a slow year, actually. Tornado warnings aren't uncommon either. They change it to warnings when the spotters see rotation in the sky. A spotter actually sits at the dead end that our house sits on, so we can tell when they are worried.

So a spotter is not a person...right?

A spotter is a person. :p

When weather gets bad they send our spotters, who are usually local police. They look at the clouds to see if there is any rotation. Their conversations can be heard on the scanner.

Ahhh - OK. See here when there's a storm coming they send out low-man-on-the-reporter-totem pole to go stand out in the middle of it and tell us how bad it is.
Kind of like Jim Cantore?

I've seen him around here several time during hurricane season.
