28 is pretty tolerable actually. It's the wind chills that get you.
Yeah once the weather decides to be a consistent cold temperature and my bloods gets used to it, it should be easy to handle. Plus when it finally stops changing between cold and 50ish, I'll stop getting sick.

I was visiting Knoxville TN in early Jan 85 when they broke their all time record low temp. It was something like 18 below.

That was the same year we had 3 snows within a month of each other down here. The smallest was about 2.5 in., the biggest was about 7 in. San Antonio broke a 100 year record with a 13 in. Snow that same year. It was nutso!
It was 90 degrees her last Sunday. Today it's 35 and they're predicting freezing rain and sleet tonight and into tomorrow morning.
Then come summer it'll be 100+ for 2.5 straight months. :joyfull:

San Antonio usually has great weather. I loved both my trips there.

Yikes!
does this happen often? (the coldest place I have been; was Houston during new year eve at -2C )

Where I live, its all sun and hot (always between 20Celsius and 35C)

Most of the water pipes in Florida are running under the house, in a crawl space. The main pipe from the street to the house is underground, along with most of the irrigation pipes. Very few homes have cellars/basements, so if the air underneath the house falls below freezing, the pipes can freeze.

I probably haven't told you this, but I'm not a big fan of snow.
I think I may have read that once or twice somewhere.

Yes it does. It's only about 1.5 hrs. south of us on I-35. It's my hometown. I was born there waaaaayyy back in '62.
It's a pretty fun-cool city and we have lots of relatives there. I even have an aunt and uncle that live in China Grove (ala The Doobie Brothers). :)
We lived there 'til I was 4 then moved to Huntsville, Alabama for about 18 mos. for my dads job at the Redstone Arsenal, then to San Jose, Cali. when he landed a job with IBM (not I Blame Meg, but International Business Machines ;)). When we came back in '76 we would have gone back to San Antone but Austin was the closest city with an IBM plant at the time.

Anyway, my apologies for yet another mini life story...

And if you live in MD, you have absolutely no clue how to drive in the snow

I've never had to drive in it as of yet...
I can guarantee you the people in LA (lower Alabama) have no idea either....Most have only seen an occasional flurry and when it does it shuts down the whole city. Schools get out, roads close, you would think it was a national disaster

Lol, yeah basically. You all up north would laugh at us in MD when we get snow. Two inches, oh dear, school needs to be cancelled! We have the equipment to handle it, but the response time is low because we barely get it.

Remember Snowmagedon? We had a over a foot of snow out back and no school for two weeks. It was great for some. The Seniors were very happy that year. But that clean up time for a place that sometimes doesn't see any snow in a winter? Yeah.

We were literally snowed in our house

Maryland also has an ice problem because of where the temperatures tend to fall. Last year my bus got stuck going up a hill because of ice. We should have gone late that day. That happens a lot because it leaves enough time for the roads to get salted before everyone leaves.

It's 35, windy, and drizzling here. I just made a beer run in shorts, flip flops, and a t-shirt. I did, however, wear a coat over the t-shirt, so I'm not a complete and total moro...never mind.....
That's a funny mental picture.

I was just listening to a comdy channel in the car and they were talking about the difference in men and women dressing.

A woman will wear a sleeveless turtleneck....that's bad enough, but you would never catch a man wearing the equivalent...a tank top with a dickie.

After driving through MD and being in a car driven by someone from MD, its not just when it snows...

You're right; drivers here are terrible. I get frustrated on a regular basis on my commute to school. Like drivers going 30 in a 40. Or who cut you off. Or honk at you because you're trying to change lanes and they are speeding and won't slow down to let you get where you want to go. Or like when I got hit when the guy ran a stop sign and then left the scene...only six months after getting my license too!

Hahaa!
Yea, I was just tryin' to make it as quick & painless as possible...
Shorts, check. T-shirt, check. Flip flops, check. Oh, I heard it's a bit chilly out. Where the h**ll's my coat? Closet, check.
