The dog is not happy being a table, but if she would get off my lap, the problem would be solved. That said, she's not budging. Dog table, it is then.

This is the view from the interview I had this morning (not impressed with this staffing agency) on the 43rd floor, facing the stadiums and the point/point state park.... But..

See that giant building under construction? That would be the country's first all green certified skyscraper. The giant slope (and note the men on it!) will be one huge solar panel. It's called the PNC TOwer and everything will be natural sunlight, reclaimed water, etc. it's actually going to exceed all LEED certifications when it's completed next year.

40+ floor skyscraper, three years to build in the middle of the very busy business district. Impressive, to say the least. All glass panelled walls, too.

Dog table...!!! :joyfull: :hilarious: :hilarious: :hilarious:

Awesome view, and awesome stuff all the way around!
As green as Austin is, I'm kinda' surprised we didn't earn that distinction first. ;)
Again, thanks for sharing, and please keep it up. Can't wait to see the finished product. :)

Also, sorry the interview didn't go better. :(

Any lady that never does that would probably end up lookin' kinda' like this...

Dear Lord woman. If I have nightmares about these giant worms I'm going to want to pinch ya real hard in the morning. *creepity*

Funny, I never been afraid of the thought of sandworms. I guess I love the Dune series too much :)

I'd take you up on that if we really needed it, but, unfortunately we don't right now. :( Our present OM is a real go-getter just like you, but, she also has the added advantage of bein' one of the partners SIL.
As an aside, I think you'd really like it down here in weird ol' Austin, though. :)

Thanks for sharing! I've appreciated the architecture of that building, and others like it, for a long time. :)

It's always worth asking ;) and I certainly would love Austin. I could see myself living there quite easily. It actually has a lot in common with Pittsburgh, but better air quality and weather!

I'll definitely update you with progress...as this is slated to be completed by spring and open for business by summer! PNC doesn't screw around!

As for the green thing, I think, since pittsburgh was once known for having the worst air quality in the world due to steel mills, that some companies are trying to make the distinction by building green. The leaders here are definitely pnc...one of their huge buildings is already LEED certified to the highest level, another was retrofitted for certification, and yet another skyscraper has an edible garden and reclaimation setup on the roof with a giant living logo(garden) on the side of it. It's really something to see. I think I've posted it before, but here it is again....

For scale, each glass pane on the left is 10 feet tall.

Another big name in going green is my favorite place, Phipps conservatory. They recently built a LEED building and wind milled an entire hillside...they do a lot to show their "green" side, aside from the actual green plants ;)
pittsburghs air quality still isn't great, but it's light years better than how it was in the past.

This is the famous "taken at 9 am" photo from the 1948.

I can share stories from when my mom was a kid and even as a teen about how crappy the air quality was...she's only 54. And a half. :)

The one that stands out the most is how, during the night, if the mills were running at full capacity, the ground, grass, cars, buildings, everything, would be covered in a soft, gray-white "snow"...ashes, fallout, from the mills! It was so commonplace in her neighborhood (j&l steel mills) that no one thought anything of it.

As kids, they used to draw and write in the ash on cars. Teehee. :)

Also, reminds me of "Tremors". Love that silly flick! :)

Yep, definitely never hurts to ask. Networking can work wonders. :)
Austin is great, and there are many other job opportunities down here.
Yes, weather and air quality are better, for the most part, but, It was also 91 today. Some may noy like that so much. ;) :)

And, more good stuff about PGH! Before knowing you, the thought of visiting there, other than by chance, never really crossed my mind. Now, I really want to visit PGH on purpose, sometime...! :)

I looked at that picture for a few moments and something drew me to it, finally it was not the weird buildings, it is all those wires all over the place. What is the story with that?
I too, noticed all the wires in the first pic.
My best guess is that photo was taken going northbound on Hurontario St.
I have only viewed them from the highway, travelling eastbound in the a.m., westbound in the p.m.

Incidentally, the complex is comprised of five buildings in total - the two sexy, curvy ones; and the other three, each of varying height.
I sold a house to a guy who lived in one of the three plainer buildings. He says the units were $150K cheaper, and had more traditional floorplans, that were not slave to the funky exterior styling of the other two.

I have! But thank you for thinking of me :) I have resumes saved everywhere and I've reached out to a vast network of contacts, people who work in county offices, firms, big corporations, smaller companies, chains, and even my friends bosses to see if I can get any leads. It helps to physically place resume in someone's hands.

I guess you can say my desire and drive to land a solid lead and a great job are my driving force to making it happen. I think all day long of my approach and tactics and I have lists everywhere of names and companies and ideas. It's borderline obsessive.

Today after my crappy interview I asked my roomies boss for a few minutes (she really likes me) and chit chatted then asked if she knew of anything, explained my situation, my skills and abilities and my eagerness to dive in head first. She pulled out her personal planner and didn't hesitate to write down names and numbers of five...five!! FCU CEOs that she personally knows and told me to use her as a reference.

If I have nothing else, I have network abilities going for me. It helps to get a little creative sometimes.

AWESOME!!!
Can't wait for you to share some good news with us!!! :)

BTW...
We all know you know a thing or two about creativity...!!! ;) :)

Loving my new phone. The size is taking some getting used to. The sound quality of HTC phones is not exagerated in their ads; Apple needs to get on board and add better speakers to ther devices. The micro sd card came today, so I expanded the memory and now have the majority of my music on my phone. Still, between the two devices, I still prefer my iPod. My phone is about the size of the new iPhone 6, and it almost feels too big. Display is also better on my iPod (expected that) and typing is still easier. Camera is still better on the iPod touch. And let's face it; I still love Siri. So glad to have a phone that actually works and works well. If I didn't have to pay $500+ dollars, might be happier with an iPhone (5s). It's just the $500+ thing I have a problem with.

Just got home from work a little while ago; and I want to thank you for deleting Peter’s comments, which he posted in the middle of the night. Your decision to delete was appropriate.

This morning, I logged in just prior to 5:00 AM, and was probably the first person who saw his post. I was stunned and disappointed, for various reasons:

1. He admitted he lied about his new career path in the Peace Corps, but only at the very end of this morning’s post, while attempting to make it all sound like an innocent joke. Any misunderstanding of his “joke” efforts by other members, was met with his comment, that others needed to lighten up. There was no mention, whatsoever, that he had stirred up a hornet’s nest—and he offered no apology, nor even a simple admission that he "might" have made a mistake in judgment, by posting his Peace Corps thread.

2. In that Africa Peace Corps thread (also deleted this past week), I was probably the only one who completely gave him the benefit of the doubt, that he was going to pursue humanitarian work. At that time, I posted my encouragement to him, as I have always been kind and respectful to Peter. However, as others posted their opinions, I then felt humiliated, because everyone knew he was lying—except for me.

3. Also in his Africa Peace Corps thread, @JenniferS tried to extend some friendly support (not necessarily stating that she believed what he was saying, but an overall concerned tone), while at the same time, she was trying to respond to others, who did not share her same thoughts.

Certainly by that point, Peter should have put an immediate END to his “joke” and told everyone in THAT THREAD (not this one . . .) that his Peace Corps plans were a lie.

Instead, he remained SILENT and did NOTHING to rectify the fallout.

Real friends don’t treat their friends that way.
I still find annoying that he has whined, complained, about "haters" and other people who hate him.
But more and more we see WHY people hate him. We showed him respect and he just slapped us square with his "joke".

That doesn't make sense. I know I gave you a number of likes.
I actually wonder what kind of bug is it.
I got no red "notification" number on top.
No gold thingies when the notifications are added and counted.
But I see the notifications as "read" in the notification list.
like someone had read it.
and I'm pretty sure didnt.

Must be something up on your end. It loaded for me, both in Safari and in Chrome.

P.S. - I'm only going to use Chrome for loading images. It's not nearly as smooth as Safari.
My internet provider must be failing to connect to that server. Cause it just times out.
in all my 3 browsers.

Nope! That's PPG. one of

several all glass and steel buildings making up PPG plaza, which is home to, err, PPG itself, Pittsburgh post gazette newspaper, a lot of financial institutions and lawyers as well. Reed smith has a sister location there, as does PNC and a few others. :)

The FBI headquarters is actually in southside. It was built in the last fifteen years or so, and stands alone. Literally. There's nothing else around it for a good three hundred or so feet. It's...odd, and out of place.

There is a CIA headquarters downtown but no one is supposed to know about it (I do, I have friends who work there) and several other...govt. agencies.

But no, they're not in the tall shiny black buildings :)

funny!, one friend who lives near pitt told me many times how "the castle" is actually the FBI building and noone can go up in there lol.

I suppose he was kidding or something!

@JenniferS those buildings look like giant sand worms lurching into the ground, ala Dune.
