I just heard some potentially bad news and I'm not sure if I should post this in the regular threads here or not. I'll mention it here and I'll listen to you all's advise as to when whether or not I should post this with more details in the regular threads.

I just heard on the opening news segment of Coast to Coast AM with George Norry that a small earthquake was detected on Yosemite. Also, the area has seen an increase of seismic and geological activity lately.

Yosemite is actually a super volcano. It has erupted many times in prehistoric past in a precise and timely pattern like clockwork. Accordingly, it is actually overdue for another eruption. If it erupts, it will be more severe than any natural catastrophe witnessed before by modern humans.

Increased seismic activity and earthquakes are precursor activities scientists agree would happen as signs indicative before an eruption.

It's possible that these signs may happen for hundreds of years first before an eruption actually happens, but that's just me trying to put my mind at ease.

Should I be worried? Should I research this more thoroughly and post my findings on a news thread if there's any chance of any thing?

EDIT - Upon further research, I found a scientific site that lists all the warning signs. There are a whole lot of other signs to watch for too. Since these other signs haven't happened, there's nothing to worry about for now.

SECOND EDIT - Upon further research, I found an article from earlier in the year that said scientists said they detected a gas called Helium 4 at Yosemite. H4 had also been detected at other volcanos in the world prior to eruptions. The detection of this gas at Yosemite has the scientists studying it alarmed and concerned, and are investigating it further.

Yikes! It may just be that the mere size of the caldera makes it more likely for gases, such as H4, to escape and the detection of such a gas does not necessarily mean an eruption is imminent. Again, that's just my take on it to put me at ease and not be so worried.

Why do I keep working myself up with worry like this? I should sleep...

You need sleepies. :p Kidding aside, your comments are very interesting. I'm not a scientist, so unfortunately, I can't add any helpful information to what you've already mentioned. I guess the only thing I can share, is that if Yosemite shows the signs of potential danger, may I kindly suggest that you avoid that region! :)

DWifey and myself were in SJ/SF two months prior to the Loma Prieta quake.
My mothers cousin still lived in Watsonville, Ca. at the time. Major damage.
One of my most memorable childhood earthquake memories is from Watsonville.
We were all gathered on Thanksgiving day at that same moms cousins house in the early 70's. We had just finished saying grace when things started to shake. We all quickly got up and went out the back door to the driveway. It had pretty much stopped by the time all of us got out there, but, I distinctly remember the house still swaying back and forth a bit and creaking before finally slowing to a stop. We all just went back in and finished the meal, and then settled in to watch football. I think there were a couple of small aftershocks after that, but, nothin' that cleared the house again.

You know, I was so concerned about all of you; but then laughed out loud when I read that you all came back inside very quickly, and dove right into Thanksgiving dinner, with all the fixins' !!! :hilarious: Earthquake? House swaying and shaking? Hey, we've got bigger fish to fry here! Pass that turkey leg, and shoot some of that stuffing and gravy down my end of the table! :D :joyfull: :hilarious:

If anyone cares, Maze Runner was good. I predict it will do good, not great in the box office. I've been wrong before (namely Robocop) with box office predictions, but it has a good cast and the script was well written. The cast, by the way, I recognized mostly from the British drama series called Skins that aired on E4 in the UK a few years ago (now on Netflix and Hulu and I highly recommend watching it), so there's chemistry between the actors and actresses because they've produced entire seasons of a television series together previously.

Thank you for the review, and I'm sure the sci-fi fans here appreciate it. I rarely go to movies, but if Maze Runner comes to tv at some point down the road, I'll check it out. That's the way it is for most movies I see; it's at least a year or more before I finally see them. Just call me a slow-poke.

May I suggest, coffee!

For those who can fall asleep for a nap quickly, a study shows if you have a cup of coffee and then immediate go and take a 20 minute nap, the optimal NAP time, you will be refreshed with energy. They say the coffee takes about 20 minutes to kick in and your body gets the brief rest making the combo a great cocktail for the sleepy.

As much as I love coffee it wouldn't work well for me. I'm not one that falls asleep quickly so the coffee would kick in long before I actually fell asleep.

Oh Wow! I can just see your family, no time for this, gotta go eat, gotta watch some football.

@MOXOMUMD , how does your daughter like the beginning of the school year? Some kids enjoy school; I was never a big fan, but I did make some good friends through the years. :)
She's getting used to the swing of things. Starting with third grade here you move to different classrooms for math and science. (I remember we didn't do that until middle school.) This is also the first year she hasn't had one of her best friends in her class. (together since preschool) She was upset at first but came home after the second day and told me she made friends with a new girl that just moved here. That's what she has been known for since kindergarten, being the student who takes others under her wing and helps them. I've always said she is a wise older spirit in a young person's body. :)

Rice video. OMG. I sit there and listen to how upset everyone is with the NFL. I'm more ticked with law enforcement and the DAs office. Why the heck did they not fully vet what happened and look at all the video and present all the evidence when their end result was Forced Couples Counseling.

Rice guilty IMO. Heads should roll in law enforcement and DAs office.

Rant over.
