Another thing that went wrong with my trip that I've been quiet about up until now and that I'm not happy about...

When I got off the light rail in long beach on my way to the airport to go to San Francisco, I was using my iPad Mini to navigate through Google Maps and it slipped from my hands and landed glass-down on the concrete sidewalk, shattering the upper right corner and other glass breaks on the screen. I just bought it like a couple of months ago and did not buy an extended warranty. I doubt the basic warranty covers it. I'll take it over to Apple as soon as I get brave enough to face the music.

Also, before I left, my $1,500 audio receiver stopped outputting sound. I changed the fuse and it still does not output sound. I really hope it's not going to cost as much as my trip to get these things fixed.

Welcome to my world!
Ahhh....electronics, my specialty.

Tell about the Audio Receiver.
Who makes it?
What is the Model #?
Exactly what happened that it quit outputting sound.
Did you do anything differently?
Was there a power issue before the audio went out?
How long have you had it?
And( I know this may sound bad ) have you read the manual?

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Many years ago, my parents took me on a vacation to Quebec. Montreal had a very large underground shopping and entertainment area, all of it connected to their very efficient, metro subway trains. We really enjoyed the experience. I haven't been to Toronto, but Quebec had many interesting sights to see, both above and below ground. :)
Toronto is generally a place the rest of us all avoid.

Too much noise.
Too much traffic.
Too many people.

And you know, the Rob Ford thing.

Onkyo TX-NR1009
Power issues - yes
Manual - Yes
Age - 2011

I did get it to work a couple of times by disconnecting everything. The network is also grayed out. From online research, there is a bug maybe in the firmware. Can't update firmware with network and update firmware grayed out. Might have to disconnect all the speakers again to get it to work to get new firmware installed. But that's only a theory. Problem may be something else. Power kept going on and off before problem started.

All the display lights are on but the speakers are not lit up as if they aren't connected. It's as if a network switch needs to activate the speakers or something. The known bug with the firmware has to do with controllers. Controllers under hardware is also grayed out, making me think that this is the known bug.

I LOVE challenges!!!!! I could do it and have fun in the process... AND it will be smoother than my CA trip because of lessons I learned.

I've traveled to Israel 3 times, where they only speak English in Jerusalem. In Tel Aviv and the rest of the country, they spoke very broken English... Barely. I imagine Japan isn't that much different.

EDIT - Maybe I should do Europe before Japan?

I don't think I'd advise flying through Japan by the seat of my pants as @unkadug has said. While we play nice with Japan these days there is still that friction with Americans in Japan aside from those areas toured, vacationed along with those doing business in a proper manner.

Now England, Scotland, Ireland and some areas of Germany are a few countries that are hostile friendly type European Countries. Even France likes our tourism/money but isn't over the top in like with Americans. Italy has no problem tossing the young in jail, they have little tolerance for our college students in their smaller towns.
This is where you need to prepare a bit and be cognizant of their laws and proper etiquette.

I'd suggest trying to explore our own country a little better with less hiccups before taking a giant leap abroad.
And secure a credit card before you go abroad, traveling without one over there far more complicated.

Just change "Amsterdam" to "Walt Disney World", please...! :D ;) :)

Dear Lord Yes! It is uncomfortable enough for us adults that have to witness some of "that" type of attire. It is even more uncomfortable to be toting around a couple of pre-teens that are starting to be a little bit more "aware" but have not quite gotten their shock reactions under control yet.

Time is NOT on your side.

When we were kids we use to pay attention to the little things that made time pass by on fast forward. As adults our brains conserve energy and we tend to do things on auto-pilot from our jobs to washing the dishes.

Short guys-nyu height scientists
less likely to divorce
marry later in life
marry less educated women
marry younger women
and less likely to help with things like housework

Tall guys
more likely to marry sooner
marry people their own age
more likely to get divorced
marry women with better educations
and are likely to pitch in around the house

disclaimer from height scientists this is an average and does not apply to all men.

No
Is it on Netflix or Hulu? And pick a season that will get me hooked when I start. I don't mind backtracking later. I normally get hooked when I start with season finales for some odd reason.
You can start basically anywhere, but season 2 or 3 is best. It's not on Netflix or Hulu. CBS has free episodes online, and depending on your TV provider, TBS has free episodes as well. There are probably other places online to watch free.

That looks like the haul we had from MNSSHP one year. :D Between three people over two nights we filled a backpack and then some. It was so much fun and we had candy until Easter.

We did the first Halloween party with my kids way back in the time machine, I believe the hard ticket was $15 for adults and it ticked us off to have to pay out twice in a day to get into the park. We debated going but we did.

There was candy at every attraction and then some other areas too. It was a hot that actual Halloween night and there was a very light mist of rain that felt wonderful. The castle was purple with a huge spider.

They gave my kids huge canvas bags and they filled them within an hour. There were so many amazing treats from boxes of cookies, bags of crackers, chips, good quality candy, best haul ever. It was great fun until a pirate CM outside the attraction pretended steal my DD (4) whole bag of candy and she burst into hysterical tears. She didn't know he was teasing or cast. He felt so bad he got another bag from the store filled it with all sorts of stuff from the store and more candy for both her and her brother. The dude was so happy we didn't have an issue with him and that he was just playing the pirate. We filled one carry on with the haul and checked the bag going home.

Hong Kong, actually, is one of the cities I want to explore one day. It has the largest network of "skyway" moving sidewalks and pedestrian bridges that connect the skyscrapers so that you rarely have to go outside on the street level to explore.

Some of the Canadian cities, such as Toronto, have miles and miles of "underground city" that I want to explore.

As does Chicago, massive tunnels beneath.

The glass can be replaced. There are places generally in the mall that will replace them for $50 to $75, just like they replace the iPhone screen. Breaks the warranty.
