When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I don't agree with forcing the innocent into being pawns for others political agendas. There are enough tragedies in the world without throwing individual athletes under the bus as collateral damage.

As I said before my BFF DD was an Olympian in England, a rower. She has been a dedicated athlete since she was 5 years old like many of these athletes. To pull her out of the Olympics would have changed nothing in the scope of what happening that year in the world and there is always unrest in the World. What it would have done is changed her life forever and greatly impacted her future career that was a direct result of her being an Olympian.

Possibly the Canadian hockey team might have been willing to withdraw from the Olympics. They are already professionals and possibly they agree they should have stayed home, gave that up the hunt for Gold for the line in the sand, with a belief that it is only a political venture and not about their team or their worldwide talent or pride.

About half of the Olympic hosts loose money. While many claim to have made money most of those are not including their direct and indirect expenses along with payments that continue for decades to come. Roads and Structures are often covered by governmental bodies in budget line items and take funds away from schools and other social services. It is difficult to recoup those programs while the government continues to finance these years after the Olympics are over. Olympic committees generally do not go over budget and do not over spend, it is all the contributing governmental bodies that do not get their funds returned to their budgets when the Olympics are over, they don't get refunds from the hotel receipts, food or ticket sales. That is generally right out of tax payers pockets as a contribution. I have to say Russia is not the only country that has egos involved in hosting. Most hosts have a great deal of pride when hosting the Olympics and showing their cities off to the world.

I love watching the Olympics, especially swimming. I enjoy watching the flags go up, the pride in the athletes faces and those of us watching them are generally pretty darn proud of them too. As I watch our flag raised for any of our athletes I am not concerned with politics and I bet that isn't what is on the minds of those with medals around their neck despite what is going on around the world. I love that this a tradition of hundreds of nations that has continued on through Wars and unrest for hundreds of years and will likely continue for many more.
We will have to agree to disagree.
While your argument is well-written and cogent, I remain steadfast in my opinion.

Doesn't mean we can't be friends and agree on other topics, though.
Like Titanic. Best movie ever made.

Did anyone else actually follow through and get Mexican for lunch today?

I did. Kinda. I picked the furthest place from my office (it's beautiful out today) and that happened to be Moe's...not really Mexican, but wanna be Mexican so I deem it close enough.

And I had nachos loaded with everything. :)

Picked up some pepto bismal on the way back to the office for the anticipatory heartburn, and very glad I did.

Now this is the way to politely state your opinion while respecting the opposing opinion, from a fellow forum member. :) So, why the heck can't the N&R threads be more like this? Sometimes, it's a freaking bloodbath up there!!

Not today - probably tomorrow. Baja Fresh is my favorite lunch place. I go there at least once a week. We have a new Moe's Southwest Grill that I went to Monday.

I ate at a new Moe's when I was over in that direction a few months ago, new to the area. I was not overly impressed, it was OK. I am more fond of Chipotle. Moe's seemed to be a knock-off of Chipotle.
