I lived there for about half my youth (though I was never truly fluent, at least I wouldn't consider myself such)...my sister was born there.

I love the country, and miss it...

The hardest part for a "non speaker", I'd imagine, is the gutteral sounds. The alphabet, if you learn that with the proper german phonetics, is EXACTLY how most things are pronounced (remember, they have a few more letters than our alphabet does...)

I actually have a German friend. The thing is he hasn't been to Germany since he was 5, though he has a dual citizenship. His mom said he used to be fluent in German, but he doesn't remember any of it. Actually, he knows some swear words from when his mom got mad at him. :p

My dream vacation is to tour France. I'd love to see Paris, and the different regions. The coasts look amazing. I'd also like to see England, Italy, Germay, Switzerland, etc. The other countries I want to visit outside of Europe are Canada and Australia.

France really doesn't appeal to me at all, but I'd love to go back to Germany, and see some of the great museums of Italy. We plan to go to England and Ireland in a few years, and trace some of my husband's roots in Scotland.

How old is this "friend"...

Past age 16, Germany does not allow for dual citizenship, as I recall.

My mom and I really wanted to do a European trip for when I graduated, but my dad didn't want to and from last year's Hawaii trip, we really didn't have the money.

The prices to study abroad are insane, at least where I'm at. For one years it's like $25,000. And then add on all of the extra expenses.

Oh, I'd only go for a few weeks. There are three-four week programs out here. I'd lose my regular scholarship if I went an entire year

Everyone should see Europe at least once. I literally had goosebumps walking on roads actually built by the Ancient Romans, and seeing the actual piano that Beethoven played, or the site of the bridge at Ramagen, or the magnificent cathedral at Cologne, was just amazing!

The pictures themselves look stunning, I can't imagine what actually being there would feel like.

He's 18. Maybe he used to have a dual citizenship but now doesn't. He really doesn't know much about it, he said his mom always took care of that stuff.

Yeah, I only know about it because of my sister...she had to give up her dual-citizenship when she was 16.

Though, the laws could have changed. Neither one of us are old, but we are not spring chickens either...though, she is much younger than me.

Yeah you don't want to lose scholarships. I have some, and I'm still paying some on my tuition. :p

Yeah, I got the highest that my school offers and it's still going to cost my parents (they won't let me take out loans or anything). So I have to be really careful. If I lose it, the tuition shoots way up

Speaking of spring chickens...
