I had about the most awkward phone conversation today...
My mom's at her high school reunion, which means that by default I now answer the house phone. I get a call asking for Donna (Donna is my step grandmother). And I say no...and she confirms that yes she's looking for my step grandmother. I tell her she got the wrong residence. It happens on occasion since my father and grandfather have the same name (my dad is a junior) and we have the same zip code. So she says, "Well, do you have a number to call her?" Yes... "Well, I'm her aunt, and her uncle just died. I need you to call her and tell her that her uncle died and she needs to call me."

Anyway, I offer to give her the number, but then she says, "No, no, I can't call her; I need you to call her." So I agree because she absolutely refused to let me give her my step grandmother's phone number.
So then I call my step grandmother, who I have not spoken to in over a year (I have a shaky relationship with my grandfather and her ever since they conveniently forgot that I graduated high school, but that's another story) and tell her that she needs to call her aunt. She said that she called her aunt 3 times today, but was surprised that her aunt had called me. Originally my plan was to call her to tell her to call her aunt, but instead she asked me what the message was, so I had to tell her her uncle died. Very gently. Thankfully she was just shocked that it had happened so quickly and thanked me for calling her. Still...that was awkward.
