imho, you need to pay.

If the house included the tub and the document said you had to keep things in shape while you rented the place.. then its your responsibility for the maintenance :/

There's a solid 50/50 divide between my family and friends on who's responsibility it is. At this point, I'm going to have to suck it up because my landlord I don't think is going to budge on this one.

I really, REALLY don't have the money to fix this, but I don't have much of a choice now do I? I'm freaking out big time. Our weather is supposed to suck starting tonight, and half of the top is exposed. I'm worried about the other half of the cover becoming damaged if I don't do something immediately.

I'll have about two hours from the time I leave work, get home, measure the damn thing, and decide what I can do to cover it, before it gets dark and the temps plummet.

I'm surprised how fast they sell too. Here the real estate market stinks. It's the only reason I live where I do. The landlord tried to sell it and couldn't get near it's worth. Sandy probably scared a lot of people from buying in this area too. So idk what will happen when they try to sell this place again in summer 2015.

Same. There's SO MANY houses for sale in my city, it's not even funny anymore. It's becoming a bad joke. And the houses that aren't selling, people have started to rent out at high prices. As "affordable" as Pittsburgh is considered, the rental prices here are insane when you compare them to income.

I'd love to buy one, but I'm just not ready.

Can you put a tarp over what is left of the cover and then tie it down really well to keep the wind from catching it? That might at least buy some time to decide or find the funds to replace.

The other thing I was thinking was that rain getting into the tub shouldn't be an issue. I don't know if it will even really freeze for the short time that the cold weather should be around. Even if it does freeze, won't the ice expand up using the path of least resistance? Just store the cover somewhere so that is doesn't get damaged further.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

Due to stricter banking and lending policies, the Canadian home market did not take the hit that it did in the U.S.

It is much more difficult to buy a home here: no 0% down, hardly any VIRM's, maximum 25 year amortization terms, and you can only re-mortgage or place a HELOC up to 65% LTV.

It is not possible here to buy a home with nothing down, and cash out 100% equity every year or so. It is harder, therefor, to get into your first home, but the market remains stable, and the foreclosure rate is minimal. People actually have equity in their homes, and are not likely to just walk away when things get tough. And, because every other house on the block is not in foreclosure, home values have continued to increase at a steady, moderate pace.

Also, this is the "spring market". You can generally expect to sell about 3/4 of your inventory in 2-3 months. And then summer comes ... and you starve.

As to @Cesar R M's commission question - yes, I am a commissioned salesperson. In new homes, however, you are paid a much lower rate than in re-sale. What you have is an established inventory of homes to sell (in this case - 82), you do not have to go out and pound the pavement looking for listings and buyers, and you have set office hours. Some years the money is very good; some years, it's just okay; and some years, you think, "I gave up every single weekend for this?"

This is what I'm planning on doing tonight... and I'm going to see if I can quite literally duct tape the Styrofoam thing back together to at least make it appear as functional as possible.

I just spoke with my Mom again and she's digging her feet in the sand stating that I should not be responsible and if the LL presses it, I should look for a new place to live.

My head is spinning. Anxiety is out of control over a stupid hot tub I don't use, won't ever use, and never wanted.

Duct tape. It's great stuff. :)

You might want to check the rent papers to see confirm if you have to pay or not, better safe than sorry!

A case of the missing thread in Chit Chat: did anyone other than @JenniferS and I read a goodbye message from Mr. Thick this morning? Jennifer, I noticed you gave him a "like" and I posted a polite response to him. (A few other members posted that they thought he was just looking for attention, or whatever.) Anyway, I left for work at 7 AM, and when I logged on here about a half hour ago, I couldn't find the thread at all anymore. I don't think it was rerouted anywhere else either. Anyone know what happened to his thread?

He made a farewell thread a while ago, saying he was leaving the forums for a while. A quick search showed that his last activity was changing his avatar to a crying, waving smiley face that says goodbye. Before this he was posting on another thread about WDW vs DLR (at least that's what I think it was). Not sure.

Legal wording in leases can be tricky, (I've rented for many years). If somewhere in that lease it clearly states that you are responsible for damages to the hot tub, and you signed the lease, then the LL may be within his/her rights to request payment.

Based upon my own experience over the years with LL's, here's a random suggestion. If you are liable for the damage and if the LL isn't budging, can you try to negotiate perhaps a 50% payment, instead of paying the entire thing? I've negotiated with LLs at various points in the past, and sometimes the outcome was positive. Now, it all depends upon the individual LL, but I think it's worth a shot to make a polite, sincere, effort with this person. I think it's sad that you're dealing with this issue at all, because you never even used the hot tub. That's a tough break.

I need to get more details from them, but, one off the top of my head was Kouzzina.
They said the food was OK/pretty good, but, the service was HORRENDOUS. They waited an inordinate amount time, no smiles on staff faces, everyone seemed kinda' short tempered, etc. They said it was definitely not what we have come to expect from Disney and that they were glad they did it their first night and got it out of the way 'cause it was actually kinda' depressing.
As I get more info from them over time I'll post it.
They stayed in a Mansion Royal Room at POR. :)

Oh my, we passed them daily.

I get the Kouzzina thing. I was never a fan. Disney already announced they are shutting down Kouzzina so I bet everyone there has an attitude. Too much notice never a good thing.
