I LOVE practical gifts. Baking sheets, pots and pans, a new vacuum. Love ' em all.

I went to the dollar store for a bridal shower gift... spent $50 on household stuff- cleaners, dish towels, dryer sheets, etc... and packed it all into a laundry basket, wrapped it in towels. It was ungodly heavy and made a solid THUNK when it was put on the floor (too heavy for the table!).

The bride absolutely LOVED it. She praised the Basket O Crap and thanked me up and down. Said it was the best present ever.

I'm a big fan of practical gifts too... in fact, I find it hard to gift a 'non practical' present to someone :\

(I got my very first, very own, brand new set of cookware for my birthday and it was like the best thing that's ever happened to me- thanks Mom!)

My mom always buys my brother and I a bunch of practical gifts with a theme for Christmas. One year it was kitchen, once it way tools, and she also throws in random practical gifts such as a rotating fan, and a napkin holder. She started this back in high school and has been doing it ever since. Last Christmas she started getting me teacher supplies, too. We also have a closet filled with teaching supplies for me that my mom never used. In a corner of our storage room in the basement, we have a bunch of old furniture for when my brother and I move out. The rule is whoever moves out first gets their choice of dining room tables and sofas, etc. :p

PS- We get other things for Christmas, too. She's not mean enough to get us only those types of gifts.

We got to the 50s on Saturday and then the high was in the 30s yesterday. These swings are insane!
Nothing like walking outside in a t-shirt expecting it to be warm yesterday morning only to have to run back inside and get a winter coat.
Just took a quick trip to Bed,Bath, and Beyond, and I can attest to the fact that it is COLD out there today. What's up with that?!!!
Spring is nothing but a myth.

Spring is nothing but a myth.

My husband I an electrician and he texted me this morning that the job site was FREEZING - it's an unfinished building without heat and based on yesterday he figured he was dressed OK. Glad I whipped up a quick pot of matzo ball soup this morning for my daughter who was stayed home sick* from school today - sounds like hubby will be looking for a hot bowl of soup with dinner!

* by sick I mean faking sick.
