When I was a younger (Pentecostal) kid in Catholic grade school, I would give up something meaningful, like cookies, chocolate or packaged pastries.
Then in high school, it wasn't as cool to put as much effort into it; but Catholic peer pressure runs deep, so we usually gave up something inconsequential. I always "gave up" smoking. Entirely meaningless, as I was a non-smoker.

I don't really practice "Lenten fasting" anymore. My next door neighbour, however, still gives up beer and alcohol every year. Given that he is a regular drinker, I have always admired this true sacrifice.

How about you @trr1, are you giving anything up?
When I was about 12 I had, what I consider, the most brilliant idea of my life. I decided that I could give up giving up anything for Lent and still be in the "letter of the law". This is a practice that I continue even today. Now if it wasn't for Mardi Gras I wouldn't even know when lent begins. I'm still pretty sure it ends on Easter.

None - they don't take coins anymore and I didn't have any small bills!! Took forever for the luggage to come too - could have lost a lot!!!
Better to do it at your hotel. There are enough distractions and stuff to do at most of those hotels that you might actually feel obligated to walk away from the machine for at least 10 minutes and look at a volcano.

Hopefully your work stuck you somewhere towards the middle of the strip so everything is easier to get to.

Really? No more coin machines at McCarran Airport? Dang, that's no fun. Most of us leave Vegas with only some loose change left in our pockets, and look forward to a little more gambling at the airport, before boarding the plane home. (Guess things have changed since I was last out there in 1994. :( )

Staying at Paris. Like it so far! It's very themed. Reminds me of EPCOT - for degenerates.

Just bills and cards - no coins. My bag was so heavy - I brought quarters with the intentions of unloading them!!

I got: *Fat* Indoor Cat
All right, so this isn’t a comment on your specific body type as much as a mind-set (your bod is hot). You know you have it made in life and kind of have a more laissez-faire attitude, which can be refreshing in a high-stress world. Sometimes people ask, “Are you stoned?” to which you respond, “I’m just enjoying life, man.” Cheers to that!

The machines with coins are mostly extinct. I think we only found one in the seedy part of Vegas downtown.

This morning plows decided not to work until everyone was already on the roads. As you may know (and if you don't, you'll need to know this for the test), I have about a 2 minute drive to campus, including stopping for crosswalks, etc. At the bottom of the hill that I live on, it kind of dips and then goes back up when turning onto the intersecting road. I got stuck in the 5ish inches of snow we got last night, so I backed up the hill a little bit to get a running start. Well, by the time I was heading down the hill, a car appeared out of nowhere. Luckily I wasn't going fast, so I could stop. Then a car came behind me, and I put the car in reverse in hopes that the car behind me would back up too. They did, and I was able to get onto the road after about 30-45 seconds of trying to use that momentum. I was stuck at that intersection for about 4 or 5 minutes. Luckily it's not a highly traveled road!

The moral of the story: skip school.

Or, walk to school. ;)
