Cute. Obviously wasn't taken in your driveway.

How many different figure skating competitions do we need? It seems like that's 80% of the games. And they are all the same to me.
The competition that the Americans won gold was ice dancing. More artistic, less athletic than figure skating. And you have to have women's, mens, and pairs figure skating with a short and long program. I guess part of it is that it takes longer generally per contestant.

Ice dancing looks like figure skating to me. The only difference is no jumps, I guess? Right now they are having free style figure skating. Sometimes I feel like they just take one event and add a small part to it to create a "new" sport.

You know what's funny?

Not a fan of ice dancing, but they are much better skaters than typical figure skaters. Just watch how they move on their feet, its kinda crazy.

I don't know that I've ever seen him design what any of us would consider a house. His designs are over the top incredible. What I get a kick out is the quirky things the clients want in the homes like this one, the turret space with fireplace where she can escape and yet have a birds eye view of what is going on beneath her. I get a kick out of eccentric peoples wants and requests.

Wow! Thanks, Gabe! :)
But, yes, a lot of times the really crazy-cool stuff is client motivated. Don't misunderstand, we come up with enough on our own, mind you, but, the client likes to be in on it and they have plenty of ideas of their own. It is up to us to make it happen design-wise, though.
I'll give you an example of one that, although was more practical than you'd think and most of the details had been worked out, never happened. At least, as far as I know...designed around the time of the economy tanking...might have to ask, actually. o_O
Anyway, the house was on 100+ acres here in Central Texas. On the property were 2 old, abandoned granite quarries. They were planning on building a lavish party complex on the rim of one of them. We designed the building AND what they requested along with it...
They wanted a way for themselves and guests to be able to drive down into the quarry and be able to park their cars in a drive-in theater type setting. Cool enough. The kicker...
They wanted to be able to view movies on a large, smooth, waterfall water screen on the quarry wall!!! :joyfull: :)

I'd never watched it before this Olympics. I noticed the difference right away. Ice dancing is, well, dancing. Figure skating is more tricks, less rhythmic, less footwork involved. It's like gymnastics vs. ballroom dancing.

I think I just figured out what my problem with the winter Olympics is compared to the summer Olympics. In the winter, there aren't as many "face-to-face" competitions where the athletes are on the same field/court/etc. I get bored watching one person go, then the next, then the next. I like where multiple teams/athletes are competing against each other at the same time. I think that's why I like beach volleyball, speed skating, etc so much. And that's probably why I find figure skating, alpine skiing, etc, relatively dull.
