I heard nothing of this, so this is my first startling. My DD was in the room and we had stereo 'cause obviously hers went off too. Thinking on a whole it is a good idea. I just imagine all the iPhones going off in schools, hospitals, funerals, movie theaters...the endless places, the very reason why my phone is on silent.

I think it is helpful tool for those situations, but the sending out one all the way to the coast like Lancaster did wont help. We are hours away, there is nothing for us to see. All they did was compel people to figure out how to turn those alerts off.

*phew* the police found the 5 year old kid somehow. He was in his Moms car that was stolen from their house. 2 hours gone. Oy.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel the mayor of Chicago, seems to be loosing it under the pressure of the winter weather.

“You get the fifth-most amount of snow,” the mayor said, referring to the city, to date, seeing the fifth-snowiest winter on record. “When it warms up, you’re going to have flooding. Apparently when the first company that had this tech for cell phones ran there first one it happened in Texas and it went from Texas to Illinois because they believed they were heading from IL. This is a FEMA project. It can be used for AMBER alerts, weather alerts or local/national emergencies/threats.

For this Amber Alert it worked, the child was gone for about 2 hours, the Amber alert for the car, someone spotted it apx. a half hour away, child in it, no suspect but at least a description of the dude.

I just thought about all those passengers that don't turn their cells off or on airplane mode in flight. Nice way of getting caught. lol

I'd kill for European vacation time. I wouldn't have to fight for one lousy vacation day they want to take away because I didn't come in during an ice storm.

So we took our niece up to Blue Spring to see the manatees today. We did see a few manatees (front centerish), but also a rather large gator...(see upper left of the photo)View attachment 46700

In what can only be attributed to pixie dust, a guy who was watching it with us claimed it was not real and just put there to please the tourists. Just before I took the picture, the thing was roaring like a dinosaur....I'll see if I got his picture roaring...

Now you're just showing off. That's at least a gator every week.

Just learned the iPhone silent and vibrate has an auto over ride to loud warning sound for Amber Alerts. Scared the daylight out of me. Didn't know what the sound was or where it came from.

A couple people got that in my art class, too. Their phones didn't sound, though.

Am I the only one finding it hard to get into the Olympics this year? I have a feeling NBC is ruining it for me with their broadcasting decisions. That, and I can't watch anything live with class/sleep/no NBC Sports channel. If I wanted that channel, we'd have to pay for the "sports package", where we get a bunch of useless stations. I'm good with sticking to ESPN, ESPN2, NFL Network, and the BigTen Network.

It is raining, was down-pouring when I left class. It's just above freezing right now with temps dropping. It's not going to be fun when all this freezes.
