Wow! That does looks like a nice one. :)
It also has it's own Boardwalk. Take that @acishere!

To be honest, I've never seen that movie. But it looks like it's closer to The Day After Tomorrow when comparing pictures.

I was figuring that the Planet of the Apes image was more iconic than The Day After Tomorrow since one is one the most famous surprise endings ever and the other I mistake for about 12 other movies made by the same director.

Got to call it a night. I have to be at my brother's at 5 AM tomorrow, which means leaving here around 4:15, which means waking up around 4:14....

Have a good evening all! Stay warm - I will.

Not to switch topics, but speaking of apes... years ago (when I was still in grade school), some college students sculpted an ape out of snow in a local park. It was very well done, too. I wish I had a picture of it!

Also, the one in the Planet of the Apes has creepier eyes. (If you couldn't figure it out for yourself, the one on the left is from Planet of the Apes. The one on the right is the real one.)

@acishere, if the Statue of Liberty thing is meant to follow a movie, it would be Planet of the Apes. I guess the thing on Lake Mendota started in 1979, preceding The Day After Tomorrow by far. Every link I've seen so far doesn't mention a movie, though. Rather a group of college student building it to ensure a "wackier" Student Association, should they be elected at UW-Madison.

Okay, so now I'm just looking up random lakes in Wisconsin, and look what I found!

On Lake Mendota in Madison, just down the road from the capital building, some people built the top of the Statue of Liberty to make it look like The Day After Tomorrow. :D

Okay that freaks me out a little.

So I Googled Lake Delton in Wisconsin and forgot that the dam broke back in 2008. I was reminded by the pictures and videos that popped up. It's about 20 minutes away from Devil's Lake, and located in the Wisconsin Dells area (super-touristy place). It's since been refilled and the dam has been rebuilt. I've been out on it in the army ducks once or twice before. Pretty neat!

Here's a video of the dam break. It took out houses and roads. I can't even imagine witnessing that.

I was in the Dells about two days after this happened and I took a picture of a sign that said "Do Not Throw Rocks Into The Lake," Well there was no more lake there. I thought it was funny.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
On the Canadian side of the Horseshoe falls, you can stand within a foot of the brink of the falls, separated only by a chest high wall.
Ever since I was a little girl, I always called this "the God spot". I always believed that if I were to ever tumble in that close to the brink, only God could save me.
My husband always thought that it was one of my cutest sayings. Here we are 28+ years later (married for 21) and he calls it exactly the same thing.
