I agree...it was sorcery....kinda hard for a hot ember to jump across Lake Michigan.
I just Googled this to look into it a little further, and it seems my source of information (my Wisconsin teacher from high school) got it mixed up with jumping across Green Bay (not the city, the actual bay). It also jumped across the Peshtigo River. Still weird how the fire follows a line as it skips over the lake.

It kinda' reminds me of Hamilton Pool here just outside of Austin.

Except it actually looks like you can go swimming in those waters. In the one from Wisconsin, you'd be lucky to get over your ankles.

I looked it up also and just remembered that I went through Wisconsin on my way to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Ely, Minn. a long time ago.

I know we went through Madison and eventually hit Duluth, but I cannot recall the route we took.
