When is that major AP overhaul happening?

Hi folks I haven’t posted in a while because I hate to add to the negative choruses on here and I haven’t had anything positive to say about Pixar Pier.

I’ve been thinking lately...

Doesn’t that major AP overhaul need to happen immediately to have an effect on the expected opening day SWL crowds? Annual Passes are good for a year and I expect SWL will be open by next June. Going forward anyone who buys or renews an annual pass is going to have an active AP when SWL opens.

So nobody knows when, but Disney has pretty much acknowledged they will be changing the program before SW:GE opens.

There was a thread where it was discussed:

https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads...-to-the-annual-pass-program-2-11-2018.938038/

I would imagine they would have to unveil the program any week now. They would have to let anyone buying an AP know when they re blocked out. If SWL is opening in late May/ June 2019 it should be soon or at least no later then July.

I guess what we can assume then is that SWL will not be open to the public 365 days from today.

I expected it to be open by this time next year but maybe they’ll just up sell private parties for the first few months. If it isn’t open within the next 365 days then hopefully it doesn’t open until after D23. The draw of SWL is going to bring massive crowds to the resort but can you imagine what adding D23 crowds on top of the grand opening of Galaxys Edge would be like?

The point was to direct everyone back to the thread where we already had 3 pages of discussion on this. Also was to point out that I don't believe we have any new information. Its still just guessing on our parts.

I'm sorry, APs. It's time for you to leave.

And so it is.

And I’m saying we have enough information to make an educated guess.

Maybe we do, maybe we don't. Its still just a guess, educated or otherwise. Its no different than when the other thread was started back in Feb. For example if the majority of APs all renew around September, Disney may not make any adjustments until August. Or maybe they make adjustments in Jan/Feb 2019 like they have in recent years. ;)

Majority of APs? Why would their be any given month where any majority are expiring at the same time? Besides APs will have to know what their blackout dates are a year in advance. Unless you re saying that Disney will sell APs that won’t be blacked out around SWL opening and then change it later for APs purchased later this year moving forward? Which isn’t happening. As long as SWL is opening In Summer 2019, the changes will be announced between now and July.

Sure there are always months that have APs expiring and renewing. But a majority of APs are locals. So its stands to reason that local APs all join/renew around the same time. Usually around local school holidays or when announcements were made about the program being changed. So a majority of APs likely all expire/renew around the same time, +/- a month or two. Now I'll admit this is pure speculation on my part, but its based in logic.

Also the contract for APs states Disney can make changes to the program at any time for any reason without warning. Just like they did when they removed parking or cancelled the SoCal and Premium APs in recent years. Now with the former they have let people continue to renew. But with the latter it was a straight cancellation. If you had a Premium AP that was about to expire, sorry no ability to renew. It was either upgrade/downgrade or give up the AP.

Point is only Disney knows what they will do and when they will do it. Sure we can guess, and hope Disney will give APs enough time to plan. But there is no guarantee that will happen. So saying it'll happen between now and July is just pure speculation and hoping on our parts. You could be right, but again no guarantee.

You can choose to define it as pure speculation. I’m still calling it an educated guess. I don’t think Disney wants to deal with a bunch of angry people who got a bunch of blackout dates sprung on them out of nowhere. We have no example of Disney adding blackout dates to existing passes during the term of the pass. The examples you gave don’t really qualify. Those are changes made AFTER passes expired not during.

Call it what you want. But neither you or I know at this point what Disney will do.

As for the examples I provided, they didn't happen after the AP expired. Disney said on Oct 5, 2015 that the Premium AP was no longer available for sale or renewal, period. I had the Premium AP that I had purchased in November 2014, my first AP purchase by the way. So when renewal emails came around in October 2015 I had no choice. It was gone. They gave me only 3 choices, upgrade to Signature, downgrade to Deluxe (SoCal was not an option since I'm in NorCal), or give up my AP. That was it no other option. I chose Signature. But that was a change made without warning. So yes Disney can do it, and they have. They can change the blackout dates also anytime they want. Again the contract states they can.

Cmon man. Those changes did not affect the EXISTING passes. The 365 days that were already paid for. The contract signed. APs purchasing a pass with xyz valid dates will expect xyz valid dates and Disney will not be changing them in the middle of the term. What happens if someone has a vacation booked around dates that appeared to be valid when they purchased the pass? Stop defying common sense to try to make some silly point.

Look to be honest I do believe they will make an announcement before the end of summer. But does that means 365 days from that date SW:GE opens, I don't think so. As long as everything is on schedule May is still the opening I'm betting on. I'm just not going to be surprised if any AP program change announcement comes less than 365 days prior to opening.

Just an FYI:

https://disneyland.disney.go.com/annual-passport-terms-conditions/

"All terms, conditions and benefits including, but not limited to, admission privileges, Blockout Dates, prices, Pass type availability, parking locations, benefits and discounts are subject to restrictions, availability, and change or cancellation without notice at any time "

Right at the bottom. States in a perfectly clear easy to understand statement.

They include that verbiage in case of an emergency or some crazy unforeseen circumstance that admission may not be granted. Not for 60 or so days that may be added to AP blackout dates due to SWL land. That’s the kind of stuff that they ll want to let their customers know of beforehand.
