What's you most awkward/embarrassing moment with a character

During the Remember the Magic Parade, I was about 14, Jafar came and pulled my friend and I out into the middle of Liberty Square, had us bow down to him on our hands and knees and kiss his hand lol. It was very embarassing for me - as I was a very shy teenager (boy did that go out the window! lol).

Another time, when I was 6, we were at Epcot and I was meeting Minnie in her futuristic, silvery outfit that had the rainbow across the front of it. When I went to hug her, my arm flipped up the back of her dress for a moment, and I remember being so afraid that people would have seen Minnie's undergarments lol. I thought about it all day that day and kept thinking of how many people probably thought I did it on purpose lol. If only our worries today were that minor! lol

I have a similar tale regarding that same EPCOT Minnie and undergarments. My Dad sat down with Minnie to get his pic taken. We noticed nothing at the time. However, upon viewing the film we were in for a big surprise as my Dad was wearing those short 1980's shorts and often went commando. His  was completely hanging out of the shorts....and I mean completely. And there he is with his arm around Minnie smiling like nothing is out of the ordinary. :ROFLOL::ROFLOL: I wonder if anyone there that day waiting behind us saw that...someone had to have and somewhere another family is telling the story as "Remember that guy at EPCOT Center......"

When my DD12 was 2 years old we were eating dinner at Chef Mickeys. We were seated in the very back up on the "landing" area near the windows. Anyway, my DD was in the high chair and trying to play with all the silverwear on the table. I moved it all away from her or so I thought. Minnie had just come out and my DD did not see her, Minnie came up behind her and hugged her. Well, my DD turned her head and freaked, a second before that she managed to get her little hands on some of the silverwear (we didn't notice because we were watching Minnie sneaking up on her). I looked down and saw my little baby girl with a butter knife screaming her head off and swinging it at Minnie:eek:. I was shocked to say the least that she tried to take Minnie out with a butter knife but, it was kind of funny.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Well, TWO trips ago, when my brother was just between being a baby and a toddler, Max (Goofy's son) stole his hat and he started BAWLING. I just hope that poor guy didn't get chewed out for it...

On our most recent trip my mom insisted on trying to take our picture in front of Mr. Potato Head in the TSMM line, even though I was trying to get her to let the line keep going. Anyways, she got yelled at by Mr. Potato Head.

I am already nervously laughing to myself about any stories that might happen to us on our anniversary trip in November. We are going to a ton of character dining because those are the places we wished to eat at. I have no idea what I should say as a 27 year old man to a character who comes up to the both of us at the table with no kids haha.

I was with my fiance and we were at DHS meeting sorcerer mickey. I thought mickey was trying to set me up for a pose so I stood there with my arm up in the air pointing at something. I wasn't sure what he wanted me to do but I stood there with a smile on my face. mean while everyone there was laughing because he was just trying to get me to look in that direction so he could sneak a kiss with my fiance. Sneaky mickey. It made for a great laugh that I didnt understand he just wanted me to look that way not stand there pointing at something I didn't know was there. Got a great photo though.

When i was younger around age 8 my mom had a tendency to do my hair in either 2 pig tails, two braids, or two buns and my hair was really long then. So when we went to Epcot we met with Tweedledee , Tweedledum, and the Queen of hearts. the tweetles both graped one of my braids and were playing with them while the queen tried to stop them. this went on for like 10 minutes and i kept giving my mom a look like "get these weirdos away from me!"

My family and I were all watching Spectro on Main Street and when the Queen of Hearts came by she made a beeline for me. Well, I thought that was kinda awkward in itself, but it got worse. She held out her hand to me and would not leave until I kissed it. My sister and her friend said that she was one ugly dude and that I kissed "Man Hands" (like on Seinfeld) They were cracking up the rest of the trip. To this day they mess with me about that. We go to WDW about 3 times a year and they always ask me if my "girlfriend" is there. My sister even made me a shirt with the Queen's picture on it to wear on our next trip. They are ruthless too. Every character we saw after that, they asked them to hold out their hand to have me kiss it. How embarassing!

You could always do as the other poster's daughter did

It should keep interactions to a minimum.

.... I have no idea what I should say as a 27 year old man to a character who comes up to the both of us at the table with no kids haha.

We eat at character meals most all the time as just two adults.
We just greet the characters and get our pictures taken with them.

For conversation, using Mickey as an example, it's usually, "Hi, Mickey!".
Mickey will take it from there.
For Chip or Dale, we say Hi and explain how we know that it's Chip and not Dale or vice versa. The character likes that and points to teeth, and nose, and eyebrows to emphasize.

It's sort of adult person to adult character as far as the conversation goes. Just 'Hi, xxxx!" may be all that's needed.
Have fun.

My husband and I are going to the princess lunch in Epcot in September and we don't have kids. What can I say, I love my princesses! My husband is in charge of taking the pictures, and I pose with the characters. That way, its slightly less embaressing for him :)

As for an embaressing moment, I have one thats more awkward than embaressing. On our last trip we waited in line forever to see Ariel in her grotto (again, just for me, my husband could care less). We waited for about 45 minutes, 30 of which we did not move at all so I'm assuming Ariel took a break. When I finally got to the front and sat down on the rock with Ariel, she literally talked to me for about 5 minutes. She kept asking me all these questions like whether I lived in the ocean, and if I liked to swim. I kind of felt bad because there were little kids in line who also had been waiting forever and here I was, a 26 year old, just chatting it up with Ariel. I could tell my husband just wanted to snap the picture and get the heck out of there

Of all the things that bring me back to Disney World again and again, the characters are not one of them. I mean, very nice -- now excuse me while I go ride Space Mountain.

Perhaps because of this, I can list two encounters I've had with characters I would definiately describe as awkward.

The first was with either Chip or Dale -- let's say Chip. As I was exiting the Haunted Mansion, Chip scampered up to me and began capering about the way the characters do, getting little or no response from me. Maybe he considered me a challenge. Because after a moment or two, he wore me down -- and I can allow that he was very cute indeed. So cuddly. So furry. So close ...

... and the next thing I knew I had my arm around him, pulled him tight, reached out ...

... and I began rubbing his belly. Briskly.

Whereupon Chip doubled over and backed away very quickly. Forcing me to realize that the diminutive person inside the Chip costume was likely female and had up-front parts she did not wish me to rub.

I was mortified, and offered apologies as Chip ran off into the distance.

The second awkward encounter occurred over in World Showcase. While on a long-awaited trip to Disney with my old chum Susan, we were strolling through the gardens in France when Belle suddenly appeared.

Susan said "Hello, Belle," and Belle said hello -- then nodding her head in my direction, Belle asked Susan "Is this your Beast?"

Which was awkward. How does one explain to Belle that Susan and I are just friends ...

... and that I had a Beast of my own waiting at home ... ?

That is hilarious! I just busted out laughing at work! I love characters and kids!

We were at the Garden Grill for Dinner and Chip snuck up behind me. When his big head leaned over my shoulder I freaked out. My 4yo and 2you enjoyed it greatly.

Shortly after Pluto did the same thing.

So now the family knows I like Dale better than Chip. And Goofy much more than Pluto.

There's a certain two-person table in Liberty Tree Tavern where there is a dinner/cow bell mounted on the wall directly over one of the chairs.

Goofy likes to sneak up behind the person in that chair and suddenly ring the bell loudly.

:)

This didnt happen to me but the family in front of me when we went to see goofy. The grandma (i assume) was in an electric wheelchair and was giving commands like crazy. she wanted like 100 diff pictures and was telling everyone where to stand and what goofy should do. well goofy came over to see her and gave her a hug, while giving her a hug he secretly took the key from the wheelchair. When she tried to go she paniced and was all frantic. she thought the battery died and then noticed the key was gone and didnt know how she lost it just sitting there. it was very funny. then all the kids searched goofy who had it well hidden (not sure where) but they emptied every pocket and still no key. it was very funny to watch.
